College football 2026
Re: College football 2026
Michigan won fair and square and the game isnt over until its over and you play 60 minutes and they made the play when they had to and Underwood will improve and learn from thus and win the Heisman and we didnt cheat and the NCAA knows it and our defense kept playing hard and Whittingham is good.

Not only that, it took an extra second to hit the ground. So essentially, they are saying the clock was off 2 seconds.bmw wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2026 11:49 pmI watched the replay. It was very close, and it looked to me like he did make a gain. Was kinda hard to tell how much.Matt wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2026 11:40 pm These officials gave Western a first down when they didn't even make it to the original line of scrimmage. Whether the extra second should have been added or not doesn't change the fact that Buchanan made a hell of a statistically improbable play to win the game. Michigan definitely played like shit today and hopefully they'll use this experience as a wakeup call.
But that's not as precise and not remotely comparable to a blatantly obvious clock that you have perfectly synced with the camera. The first camera frame where the clock reads 0:00, just look for the ball. If it was at the edge of his fingertips and it was hard to tell whether there's a gap there or not that's one thing. But you could drive a semi truck through the gap. Refs in basketball and baseball make these kinds of safe/out and who was the ball out of bounds off of every single game. But a ref in a feature game can't see a gap that size? Come on.
The only way this was legit is if Terry McAulay was wrong. And he waited a good 3-4 minutes before verifying things. If he was wrong, he really put his reputation on the line here.

Re: College football 2026
The clock hit zero and WMU won I was surprised they added a second on and gave Michigan a second chance at the hailmary and win it WOW just WOW. Michigan play like shit other than first drive & final drive on offense. Defense did well bend and don't break and kept Michigan the game will not happen VS the Sooners next week will lose 4 or 5 scores.

CBS sports did a breakdown and the B1G says it was the correct ruling. The opposing player hit the end line and then touched the ball with 1 second left on the real game clock. Here’s tape that includes the screenshots that replay review viewed when making their ruling: https://youtu.be/7xm4MKMNqlo?is=LUmerwDkQOZV-MsJ
I still think this coach sucks and Underwood is the most overrated Michigan QB since Devin Gardner.

Re: College football 2026
Underwood played horribly for sure.
If he's under center next week, U-M is likely fucked. I'm sick of trash play from U-M quarterbacks. Have already had to endure that for two straight years.
Watching the official video the Big Ten released doesn't fully resolve doubt as to the accuracy of the final ruling. How do we know the left panel and right panel are synced properly on the split screen? Yes, there was :01 showing supposedly when the ball was touched, but my goodness, that clock was :002 at most from touching :00. So, even the tiniest syncing glitch would've resulted in error.
If the official syncing on replay review was correct, the decision to put time back on the clock was indeed correct. FWIW, the MAC Commissioner seems content with the official explanation.
I will say Matt's earlier statement of Michigan being deprived of a couple seconds on the game clock a couple plays earlier appears correct. Why THAT wasn't reviewed is a mystery to me.
I will also say I liked most of Whittingham's comments after the game, and the players interviewed responded appropriately. One interviewed player said his team's performance made him "sick to his stomach."
We'll see if Whittingham and the Wolverines can make amends for last night's pathetic performance next week. There is no acceptable excuse for scoring ZERO points for over fifty-four straight minutes against a MAC opponent. No one in their right mind would've thought such futility was possible with WMU as the opponent.
The defense was merely OK. There should've been more three-and-outs. WMU was allowed to extend drives too many times. Fatigue was likely becoming a factor given the amount of time Michigan's defense had to spend on the field.

100 percent in agreement that tenths of a second should be displayed in critical situations.
Not sure it is needed for a full minute like in the NBA or NHL, but such info definitely should be displayed for the final ten seconds of the second quarter and fourth quarter in college football.

One unfortunate thing in this saga is how Buchanan's remarkable catch in quadruple coverage is getting lost in the shuffle.
That dude made an amazing catch.

But a real solid "whataboutism" point from you because technology and instant replay hasn't advanced at all in 25 years, huh?

As a WMU alumni, here's the thing. The replay system as it is now is what everyone has agreed to abide by. The conferences trust that (as evidenced by their statements last night) more than they trust the TV broadcasters' systems. Anyone would be a fool to think the current system is without flaws.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2026 6:39 am Underwood played horribly for sure.

But the bottom line is that anyone watching on TV was totally biased and influenced by NBC's coverage because they saw that first. There is really no way to undo that influence.
The replay officials didn't see that coverage. They just used the tools they were given and made the call, which was correct based solely on the only data they had in front of them - and the only thing they could use. Every single one of us makes the exact same decision the replay officials did based on the info they had using the system they had to use.
For me, I've had my heart ripped out by Western getting burned on long passes sooooo many times. I knew this was going to be the outcome when they played it safe and kept kicking field goals. I'm pissed, but not because of the replay system.

Re: College football 2026
That's some interesting footage. And it demonstrates that SOMEBODY's camera feeds were out of sync, because that side-by-side differs from the side-by-side aired by NBC against the raw video feed of the stadium clock. I will be curious if NBC Sports ever has an official statement on this. Thus far all I've seen is this per an official nbcsports.com article:MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2026 5:25 am CBS sports did a breakdown and the B1G says it was the correct ruling. At this point the only definitive proof will be if any fan at the game has cell phone video zoomed out enough that you can see the stadium clock but clear enough that you can see the ball location when it hit 0:00.Of course, there’s a lingering question as to how the NBC sync of the two shots showed zero seconds and the Big Ten sync showed one.
