You're right, but there's parlay action to consider.
Hopefully it will be verified the stadium clock was inconsistent with official timekeeping and that the decision to add :01 was correct.
If an acknowledgement is made that the extra second was granted in error, then the persons involved in that end of game decision should all be fired.
The live game graphics clock in NBC's score graphic was synced a bit different than the later replay they showed. THAT clock hit zero basically just as the ball reached the defender's hands. But even then, even if that clock was correct, the call on the field was game over, and I don't see any indisputable evidence that he was touching the ground when the ball reached his hands. He appeared to be up in the air.
Here's a fun fact. It was 10 years ago this week that CMU infamously beat Oklahoma State on that un-timed down. That whole officiating crew was suspended for 2 games.
The only thing I think this compares to is Armando Galarragas perfect game....that "wasn't". Everybody knew what really happened, but the records will never show. Michigan lost, everybody knows that. But they're 1-0, and nothing will change as far as records are concerned.

At least Joyce owned up to that. He was genuinely upset over blowing it. I doubt the same will be true of anyone on this officiating crew.
I'll be curious to see if there any what I'd call "protest votes" when the AP Top 25 comes out punishing Michigan and putting Western Michigan into the Top 25.

Joyce could have said whatever he wanted to, it makes no difference. History is history. Gallaraga never threw a perfect game. Except he did.
The impotent NCAA will come out with some bullshit explanation that no-one will believe and that will be that. It's just such a complete screw job for WMU who earned that game, won it, and saw it taken away. As a um hater, it makes me sick to my stomach, I can only imagine how a Bronco alum feels about their greatest sports victory robbed from them.
Greatest sports victory? You do realize WMU won the men's ice hockey national championship in Division I in 2025, I hope. I'd say that by far was likely the greatest win in the history of WMU athletics, not a regular season college football game against a #16 ranked opponent.

So the Big 10's official statement seems to confirm that the camera pointed at the stadium game clock is perfectly in-sync with all the other cameras - or at least that it was 85 minutes before the game started. Great. So there's no time left. What am I missing here? I don't pretend to understand the exact technology they use, but is it possible for them to later get out of sync?
The only way this makes any sense at this point is if the 2 camera views NBC showed a few minutes after the play were out of sync for some reason at NBC's end.

It's just gobbledee-goop. There's no justification at all. We all saw it with our own eyes. Time ran out.
