Got lots of wind by the airport… maybe 45-50 mph at times. Not a drop of rain. Lots of lighting and thunder.

Big time blow in southern Sterling Heights! Power out in neighborhood. Saw big time electrical sparks and smoke rising from the backyards of three houses across the way. Fire trucks arrived with lights flashing.

Looks like the 4th line is hitting at 4 AM. I have never heard lightning like this or seen training like this. This is some serious El Niño level shit tonight.

The multiple lines of storms are being fueled by a nearly stationary frontal boundary and pieces of jet stream energy.

I had two additional rounds of storms overnight. A good 15 to 30 minutes prior to arrival, plenty of lightning was visible. Tough night for sleeping.

My neighborhood was in very desperate need of heavy rainfall. We got it. I'm happy.

Of course. I was asleep. Some thunder woke me up but that was it. Goddamn it.

Turns out a lot of people around here (even in my neighborhood) lost power. I won't have a chance to go look at any damage, but even into Brighton township people are without it. MIL in Wixom is without power.

Lol! My wife just texted me "All of Brighton is at Starbucks" 🤣

I’ll have to look at my gauge later… I’m suspicious I never got a drop.

That wouldn't shock me. The storms seemed to be dodging much of western Wayne and Washtenaw counties for whatever reason.

Radar rainfall estimates show no measurable rainfall in those areas with perhaps a very small stripe along I-94 near the airport.

New severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Lansing area.

Drove right through it on I-75 headed to flint… the rain was intense and we got down to 30 for a while.

4 inches of rainfall now at my place since yesterday. Surprisingly few puddles because the water table was so damn low due to the dry summer here.

I know portions of Oak Park and Southfield had minor street flooding overnight (per news reports).

Possible tornado near Lakefield in Saginaw County. Moving toward St. Charles. Take shelter immediately if you are in that area.

Severe thunderstorm watch now in effect for south central and SE lower Michigan.

I mentioned today's severe weather risk in my Sunday post. :)
