Tech issues galore: What the fuck is going on at Kroger?

A new Kroger is planned for 14 Mile and Coolidge (NE corner across from McDonald's) wirh 85 apartment units included at the site. The current store I go to on Coolidge would close when its built. They want a drive up pharmacy and gas station.

I like the current store and am not looking forward to the new one.

Yes, Meijer, with a fuel station is nearby. Also, the Kroger that would be closed is in the same plaza as a Target store.
Given the traffic at that intersection (which can be heavy and excessive at times) and the fact that Coolidge splits at Fourteen Mile and continues south a ways down on the other side of Fourteen Mile, maybe the market can support all those big box stores in proximity of each other. Frankly I find that center and traffic ingress/egress a bit too congested and I shop at a different Kohls, Target and Meijer.

The railroad overpass has been there since 1930. That intersection should have been reconfigured decades ago.

The railroad line used to run alongside Woodward Avenue from Royal Oak towards Pontiac. So at least drivers dont have to wait for 10,000 foot freight trains.

I believe Beaumont/Corewell/whatever owns the shopping mall at 13 and Woodward where the current Kroger is/was.

The intersection was likely altered when the bridge was built, otherwise it would require two bridges or a severe altering of the path of the new tracks. Considering that area was probably fairly rural in 1930, the current setup made sense.

Didn't realize it was torn down and replaced by Meijer. Been a while since I've been over that way. I would assume Meijer bought it as they to my knowledge prefer to own their stores.

No, we're talking the Coolidge Hwy at 14 Mile intersection, not 13 Mile.

There are no RR tracks at Coolidge / Woodward / 13 Mile. However, that intersection is sometimes a clusterf*ck, too. Southbound traffic on Coolidge or cars trying to turn left from southbound Coolidge onto Woodward like to block northbound Woodward on occasion.

I'm not a big fan of Woodward Market by Meijer. They need to get rid of the gimmicky BS and make it a regular supermarket. Beef prices are outrageously expensive there. Bread aisle is limited. Soft drinks aisle is limited. Dumb coffee shop takes up too much floor area. H&BA aisle is too limited. For some product categories, name brand offerings are sparse and Meijer private label offerings take up too much shelf space.

I usually only go there if I need a few items or if the store sends good coupons in the mail (example - save $10 if at least $10 is spent).

Yes I know. The Kroger mention made me think of the old location, and this would be a replacement. The 14/Coolidge intersection was probably a 4 way prior to the bridge and tracks being built in 1930. Since they go at an angle, either they would have to curve to avoid that intersection, or another bridge (over Coolidge) would have to be built. The current intersection where Coolidge is skewed and split at 14 Mile was cheaper, especially since the area was probably mainly rural and not a ton of traffic back then.

A few years prior, Coolidge was known as Monnier Road, after a landowner in Detroit.

There are ways to training staff so they recognize price buyers. Politely accepting (acknowledging) their thoughts and saying nothing more. The bold one's try to complain on social media. We once replied: "There are many restaurant choices in xxx, it sounds like we aren't the best choice for you. Thank you for giving us a try."

It garnered much more positive feedback than negative. Some people get brand culture, others will never understand the world isn't a chevy dealership with how they operate.
