Tech issues galore: What the fuck is going on at Kroger?

Unread post by MotorCityRadioFreak »

Three weeks ago, I couldn't place an order via my phone on the app or website. Now, I cannot place an order on my laptop. The security certificate for the website is not valid, and no one is answering their chatbot help feature even though they are supposed to be there until 9:30 PM.

Why don't you just go to the store to shop? A lot quicker and more convenient.

Because my back and budget won't let me. I can look for the best deals and save time by shopping online and I won't be doubled over in pain after an hour. The beauty about both of our countries is you can shop your way, and I will shop mine. I spent more in person at the store and never found everything I wanted. Never went back to in person shopping since 2020 unless I wanted a few things at Aldi.

I haven't found shopping in a store to be convenient for years. Plus, you have to be near people.

I love going to the grocery store and to Costco.

I like food, what can I say? :)

I seldom go with a shopping list. Those are a hassle. Impulsively buying things is more fun.

I hate going into the store but prefer shopping myself instead of a delivery service or paid shopper. I am very picky when it comes to produce and meat.

I agree in spirit with TT. I don't do mail order and delivery if I can help it. At least a couple of times a month, my wife takes a bunch of packages to Kohl's to return to Amazon.

OTOH, people are ridiculous. You've got the person who takes their sweet ass time. The person who doesn't know what they want or what they're looking for but won't get out of your way. The person that stands in the middle of the aisle comparing Jif peanut butter to Kroger peanut butter.

Then you'll have the person who runs through the store like they're on Supermarket Sweep in 1990. The person who has to fast walk to make sure THEY are the next person online to check out.

I can remember years back, if two people almost collided or entered the same aisle at the same time, they would at least smile and offer for you to go first or something. Now you're lucky if you get a half assed "sorry" really quick.

So after all that, I totally understand the need and the want to shop online and have things delivered.

And that person is still standing in the middle of the aisle, comparing Jif to Kroger brand.

At my local Kroger, the biggest problem is with the bottle return. It's always an adventure.

On Thursday, the only available machine wasn't working. The guy who clears the machines was nearby, so I looked over at him. He is mentally handicapped, like many of the young men in the store who take care of basic tasks like sweeping the floor and bringing grocery carts in from the parking lot.

As soon as I looked at this guy, he rushes over and says, "Don't get upset! I can tell you're upset by your body language! I'm an expert on body language!" and so on. This was so freaky that it took me a couple of seconds to react. I was annoyed for a moment, then realized the best thing to do was just humor the guy. Soon, another machine opened up and everything went smoothly.

This guy opened up the malfunctioning machine, cleared some stuff out, made some adjustments, and closed the machine. It malfunctioned for the next person to use it.

And you think Meijer isn't with their M Perks? What about Walmart? Hell, they got so many cameras I feel like I am in a penitentiary. Maybe Costco doesn't, but I am a one person household so I can't buy in bulk. It makes no sense logistically to me as a person scraping by. Here's a clue, anyone who uses a credit card or a debit card and a smart phone is being tracked.

I haven't had anybody following me lately or bothering me in any way lately... so sure folks are tracked.... but I don't see the direct harm anywhere around me. Literally nothing has changed.

It's not a problem until the government makes it one. But like I said, the cat has been out of the bag since the first iPhone hit the market in regards to corroborating spending habits. Anyone who uses any type of loyalty card is tracked. I am not saying it is good, but I am saying that Circle Seven acts like it is some new revelation; it is not. People who use discount cards get a cheaper price in exchange for giving marketers data. Hell, Farmer Jack had loyalty cards in the 90's. They all have maintained shopping habits for decades.

Also the Clicklist (or whatever the hell Kroger calls it now) pickup workers blocking the aisle with their oversized carts, and kids running around screaming while the parents argue over which brand of bread is better for toast.

I was doing pickup during the pandemic and usually it went smoothly, but I'd rather pick out my own produce and meat.
