Plate Cap wrote: Sat Jul 15, 2023 1:09 pm It's interesting the amount of attention that this matter has received. I'm told it is appearing on all sorts of different postings on FakeBook, and as a result I've heard from about 6 friends who brought it to my attention suggesting that I take care of them gratis'. I'm certain, given the attention, someone will. Given the location in Michigan I'd bet our friends in Coldwater step up.

Another religious broadcaster in the region has a rather predatory predisposition to attacking HS/College non-comms for their authorizations. That one doesn't seem to get any sort of media attention.

Sounds like given the shoestring operation, even an antenna change might be out of the question self-financed, but I'll wager there will be a landslide of donations well above and beyond what is necessary to make the change. I'm thinking their troubles with both frequency assignment and also operations / expenses will soon be over.
Plan and simple, it was a dick move. How many cars in that town have that H. S. station on preset? I hope this creates a H*** amount of blow back so that the Kkkristians back down.

As a Class A, 90.3 would be limited by 101.1 WUPY 10.8 MHz IF restriction. If under Class A, 99 watts or an LPFM, would probably work, but it's a unique situation, probably would need a waiver.

This might be helpful, though many would require an Exhibit showing that the F(50,10) 34 dBu contour doesn't reach land in Canada.

98.1 should be available as WHWL's new full power station is replacing a nearby translator on said frequency.

I agree it would be the Christian thing to.set the High School Station up someplace else and throw in a transmitter so they can have a stronger signal

WOAS would remain a Class D station, with 99 watts, with a second adjacent exemption to WGGL 91.1 Houghton as if it were a translator. A Class A station with at least 100 watts does not seem to be an option. The Class D does not seem likely to be further bumped by another higher Class station.

Click the Technical Exhibit. As we surmised, this channel change application is about as complicated as it gets. Many considerations. It is on the same frequency as CKPR-FM Thunder Bay. That shouldn't be a problem under the agreement. I would have thought that a waiver request, Yes on the checklist, would be needed for the translator type exemption, but that could be amended if necessary to specify a waiver request in the application checklist. Our speculation about the complexity of this was well placed.

If you read it, it will take a while to digest.

CKPR-FM 91.5 is not accurately reflected in the US Database, as seems to frequently be the case since they changed to the new system. Wikipedia has it more accurately.

So you are involved with possibly knocking a community radio station off for another useless Jesus station? These stations are like locusts.

I was looking for a solution in earlier comments, if you read them. None of your adversaries on the Buzzboard were directly involved to my knowledge with any of this.

Would you support new rules blocking an out of market satellite station from displacing local service, (regardless of Jesus being involved) even a class D?

If you bothered to read the attachment to the application, you would see that there are dozens of frequencies they could have moved to.

Are you saying that if some University wanted to put an NPR affiliate there on that channel, you would have had the same reaction? You seem to have a totally irrational animus toward Christianity and Christian radio.

I think that they probably should have offered some help to relocate WOAS. But all the nationwide publicity has probably resulted in far more help than they could ever have imagined or received from the Class A applicant.

WOAS also had decades to try to relocate or become a 100 watt Class A station, as hundreds have. It was public broadcasters as I recall reading in the 1970s that regarded 10 watt FMs as a waste of spectrum space. There were only a few Christian FM stations at that time. They were talking about High School and other student staffed 10 watt FMs like WBFH being a waste of spectrum space. Read the views of the people who proposed and commented on all of the upgrades and elimination of 10 watt FMs. I did decades ago.

Easy, if you have the budget to do this. This was Ontonagon, not a suburban stick. Coming into town and pouncing on the little guy is super shitty. The fact that it was a Jesus station just makes it comical, and revealing how little care is taken in the name of growing.

NPR requires local staff for their affiliate stations. KLOVE has hundreds of signals with nothing but a leased tower, so not a great comparison.
