Re: Radio Format holes
Kinda hard to believe that WMUZ has been Christian since it's first day of broadcast in 1958. Also from 1961 - 1980 WBFG 98.7 which was owned by Trinity Broadcasting had the same type of Christian teaching programs. Both stations had solid advertisers. I also find it unique in the essence that the ...

Re: Radio Format holes
Can I be honest here? I don't think anyone cares anymore. With most markets and with most owners, you're gonna get a handful of formats: Country Classic rock (or a classic hits catch all) Jesus Some form of talk (news or sports) An urban AC leaning format Mainstream (active) rock blows, modern ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Had a slight band opening from Canada this morning 8/21. Was outside cutting grass at home (Rochester Hills) on the hearing protectors again. Did not do a complete bandscan, just the middle to lower part of the FM "commercial band" in the US. 93.5 CBBL weak 95.9 had CFPL ( FM96 ) punching in over ...

Re: WCXI Cool1160
Same here, been frequenting 1160 AM just to see if WCXI has flipped or not. I have not noticed a change in programming over the air yet, been wondering if there is a planned flip date, or if it is a surprise?

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Very strange tropo tonight. 3 instances of being able to use my antenna and semi drifty tuner (this one not quite as bad as the usual one I use in terms of driftiness) and catch a far away signal, and then turn around and use my handheld HD radio tuner and pick up another completely different ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Weak tropo 8/9/26 about 9:30 PM *using Sangean HDR-14 indoors, no outdoor antenna or drifty tuners. Location Rochester Hills No new catches tonight or anything really notably far. Mainly a Canadian amplification event aside from WKAR. 89.3 CKGW stronger than usual 90.5 WKAR briefly, weak 91.3 CFCO ...

Re: Kim Adams
I will say I had no problem whatsoever with Ben's on-air style. His forecast accuracy seemed a bit better than the Dave Rexroths of the world, too. I met him once… seemed nice enough. Wasn’t it refusing to do masking during COVID at the station or something that did him in? That sounds familiar reg ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
A bit late to post, but Fri 7/31 had WKCQ 98.1 coming in loud and mostly clear from Clarkston all the way to Rochester Hills area on I75/M59. Once I was in Rochester, on the higher elevation areas the HD sidebands of WJLB started eroding WKCQ but 98.1 would come in better at lower elevations. I was ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Outdoors with the hearing protectors, had another E-skip, a very elusive one at that. 89.9 CBE-FM had Family Life Radio cutting in very selective spots but I could not keep the distant signal long enough to get the TOH ID. The 2 full power possibilities are WJTF Panama City Florida or KJTA Flagstaff ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Kind of a letdown tropo event tonight. Map is lit up deep red all over most of MI/MN/IL/IA/WI indicating likely strong tropo but not much in terms of catches. Really looking into improving my DX apparatus as my tuner is getting really bad in terms of frequency drift. I may be overamping the antenna ...

Re: WDET now has HDRadio HD2 & HD3, why?
A few weeks ago WDET had posted on their Facebook page that they were having transmitter/ equipment issues: Some listeners may notice occasional changes in the quality of WDET’s over-the-air broadcast as we work to resolve a technical issue affecting our transmission equipment. Our engineering team h ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
I was looking at the FM bandscanner maps over at rabbitears.info and the maps definitely depict a large E-skip event that was all across the US,(us here in Michigan got a big wave of catches from TX/LA/AR/OK, among less from other spots), in some parts of the US it even persisted into this morning 7 ...

Re: Spring 2026 'conditions'
Just got another E-Skip catch from home(Rochester Hills)on the AM/FM hearing protectors about 5 minutes ago. 90.1 WGCU-FM Ft Myers, Florida Edit: It was EXTREMELY weak and I missed part of the TOH ID but then the announcer mentioned SW Florida and then the website WGCU.org so that was the giveaway ...

Re: Detroit Talk City on Fox 2
I think if I did the math right this brings them up to 13 hours live* and local each weekday (given there is no special network programming on Fox, and not counting any news reruns). Did you include 10pm - 11:30pm I get 14 and a half hours a day. I looked at the overnight program guide and did not ...
