Spring 2026 'conditions'

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Another first-time catch early this morning: WQGR Gold 93-7 Ashtabula, Ohio. Nice oldies station. I fell asleep to the strains of 90.3 WCLV on my bedside radio.

In my work parking lot in Allegan this morning, I had the following:

93.1 K-Rock out of Iron Mountain with FB&HW and UP Fair ads
96.3 the Rock from the Marinette/Menominee area
94.1 WJJO (instead of WWKR or WWDK)
Razor 94.7 (this isn't too uncommon)
Sunny 97.7 from Fond du Lac, WI

Up north is paying a visit this evening. 103.3 Hits FM, 104.7 WKJC and 106.1 The Point Tawas, 107.7 The Bay Alpena, CMU 95.7 and Thunder Rock 100.7 Oscoda, 99.9 The Wave Rogers City, Smile FM 104.9 Lake City, 103.5 WTCM and 88.7 WIAA are all in. Also Y102 and Big Country 100.9 Big Rapids (the latter a new catch for me).

I was just trying to tune in W280EL 103.9 but the radio dial had other plans:
103.9 CKDK strong replacing W280EL
(This Prompted a Bandscan)
88.3 WNFA
90.1 WUCX (heavy bass interference from CBE)
90.5 WKAR
90.7 WNFR
91.5 CKBT replacing WVMV
92.1 CKPC (WMXD bleeding in)
93.5 CBCL clear
94.3 CKSY fighting but losing to translator W232CA
95.9 CFPL replacing CJWF
96.7 CHYM replacing CHYR a little staticy
97.5 WJIM-FM (barely) replacing CBEW, weak
98.1 CKLO (Radio drifty and recieved on 98.3 but 98.1 is blown out by WJLB)
98.5 WNCX weak
99.9 CFGX replacing W260CB
101.5 CBEF-3-FM replacing W268CN
102.1 WDOK (Clear on indoor radio, NOT antenna- found on 102.3 weak on antenna)
103.7 WRTS Clear
104.7 WIOT very weak

Tonight was an event of station replacement night for me. 7, almost 8, local or semi local signals were replaced by distant / out of market signals. 3 of those were prominent full power FM's. The rest were translators or lower powered signals.

Location/ setup same as aforementioned, antenna direction unchanged.

This is a mess of a dx log, I was outside with my AM/FM hearing protectors trying to DX while cutting the grass.

88.5 WYSU/WMCE fighting
105.5 W288BK had an unidentifiable rock station cutting in, very very spotty reception over the translator.
107.9 was a mess. Had likely WCRZ, WENZ, and a third A.C/CHR station all clashing.
90.1 WUCX with a religious station(WYBA?), WUCX dominant
90.3 had WCLV creeping in on KDTI, KDTI dominant
103.7 WRTS fairly strong, faded occasionally
103.9 CKDK dominant over W280EL

Edit: phone glitched and it pasted my log 3 times with 20 enter spaces between them.

I had a very clear signal from WYSU late last night. Also had Mix 97.1 Ashtabula poking through The Ticket.
Then this evening I spun through the dial and...nothing of note apart from the usual. Looks like nearly a week of uninterrupted extreme tropo is over. It's been a fun week though.

Just got another E-Skip catch from home(Rochester Hills)on the AM/FM hearing protectors about 5 minutes ago.
90.1 WGCU-FM Ft Myers, Florida

Edit: It was EXTREMELY weak and I missed part of the TOH ID but then the announcer mentioned SW Florida and then the website WGCU.org so that was the giveaway there. When first hearing it I first thought it was WUCX since it was NPR, but the station promo insert changed that thought instantly

Dude. I'm sitting in the Kroger parking lot at Grand River and Whitmore Lake road in Brighton and I have Spanish or Regional Mexican fading in and out on 106.7 (breaking into Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi). The only stations I see are in Florida, Chicago and West Texas. Anyone have any input on this?

Actually, I have a lot of interference happening. 89x, which is normally pretty reliable here, is breaking a station with a Jesuscaster format AND The Joker by Steve Miller. 98.7 is picket fencing bad, too.

Yeah there's some really weird reception conditions ongoing right now. Been hearing all kinds of Spanish stations on the FM dial.

Out of curiosity I scanned my TV and didn't see much unusual except for Channel 4 CIII out of Ontario.

To clarify, the 88.7 signal was strong enough to ID as K-Love. I'm gonna do some digging and see where it was since they don't broadcast on 88.7 in Michigan apparently.

I'd also like to mention that I had "Uptown Girl" on 92.9 when I was in Webster Twp and it fought with a Rihanna song. I was in the work truck so I don't get to look them up.

Edit: the K-Love I was picking up could have been any of the following:

Searcy, Arkansas
Bakersfield, California
Breckenridge, Colorado
Estes Park, Colorado
Fort Meyers or Gainesville, Florida
Americus, Georgia
Warsaw, Indiana (strong possibility)
Kalispell,.Montana
Astoria, Oregon
Yankton, South Dakota
Corpus Christi, Texas (wouldn't shock me)
Tyler, Texas
Wheeling, West Virginia

I'd buy into the Indiana station, but Texas is apparently where 106.7 has a Regional Mexican station. I've gotten 88.7 from Texas before but it was an NPR station.

96.7 KISS FM (KHFI - Austin TX)
97.9 The Beat (Dallas - KBFB)
101.1 KLOL Mega 101 (Spanish) - Houston
107.9 (one-o-seven-nine the Mix) - Augusta, Maine (might be my first ever catch from Maine)

E-skip is wild right now!

Hearing KLBJ-FM Austin and 93.7 The Beat from Houston on 93.7.

94.5 The Buzz from Houston is trying to punch through WCSX's IBOC sideband.

90.1 KPFT Houston coming through clearly.

97.5 WACO is sneaking past CBC Radio One here & there.
Buc-ee's sucks! Stay the hell away from my state.
