Adriana Doria is leaving WOOD TV

She announced tonight that this is her last broadcast from the desk and that her last day is Friday. It sounds like she’s going to a larger market. She said she’ll post details in July.

That’s a shame. She’s a damn good anchor and reporter. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see her on a network in a few years.

I've thought too that she might wind up at NewsNation since it's also owned by NexStar and is based at WGN in Chicago, which is also a larger market.

The only other possibility is moving to another NexStar owned local broadcast station in a larger market given how WOOD will air human interest stories from sister stations.

Agreed; she's very good! WOOD-TV did an excellent job with its recent female anchor hires. They are as good or better than many of their Detroit market counterparts.

I also have to say the Fox 17 newscasts I perused recently were significantly improved from a year ago.

From a quality standpoint, now is the most competitive the three Grand Rapids-based TV news operations have been in quite some time, in my opinion. That is surprising to me given the uncertainty that hangs over WZZM's future.

Channel 3 looks like absolute garbage compared to the three Grand Rapids based stations. The graphics are a complete disaster at WWMT. On a newscast I saw either Friday or Saturday morning, the "lower third" banners were positioned too low, causing some text to literally disappear off the bottom edge of the screen. The color scheme is a disaster. The red & silver banners look hideous next to the blue & yellow station logo. The font also looks outdated by a good 10 years. Whoever is responsible for WWMT's on-air visual look is inept.

I agree on all points! Watching Sinclair stations in the other Michigan markets...they are all collectively terrible and amateurish. Only redeeming quality at TV3 is Jessica Harthorn and the weather guys.

Adrianna announced today where she is going next: WESH-TV in Orlando. It's a Hearst owned NBC affiliate on Channel 2. If the call letters look familiar, former WWMT meteorologist Amy Sweezey was here for roughly two decades after leaving Michigan.

What has me confused with Adrianna's announcement is that while Orlando is a larger market (#15 vs #43 for Grand Rapids), how will West Michigan still see her unless it is a report on Nightly News given that Hearst has no ownership on West Michigan.
