Re: WLXT new tower
I guess The Bull won't be returning to 96.7 after all.
Signal into Traverse City on 96.3 with those specs, although listenable in the car, won't be nearly good enough indoors.

Re: WLXT new tower
I'm finding it odd that WLXT is only proposing to run 13kW at a HAAT of 317 meters. Class C2 WBCM is 14kW at a HAAT of 283 meters on the same tower. A full C1 from that HAAT could run up to 87kW.
Could WLXV be moving its tower closer to TC?

Re: WLXT new tower
Can the WLXV 96.7 tower move closer to traverse city???
Re: WLXT new tower
Meticulous me happened to notice that the new WLXT transmitting site will be a tower quite close to the one that WBCM is on...but not the exact same one.
WLXT will actually be the first FM on the tower owned by CCE911, the governmental agency for the Central Dispatch for Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Emmet Counties.
Perhaps there's transmitter/equipment space issues in the tower's building? Or a constraint on the sizing of the power line up the tower?
I personally doubt MacGarb would put any money right now into moving WLXV 96.7, what with all efforts underway to replace what the ice storm took down. Granted, it's likely insurance claim money covering much of that cost.
Growing up in Cadillac, WITW 96.7 was Elevator Music. I see the history card shows it was 1974-75 that the station came about, with the transmitting location being east of Cadillac off M-55. Then in 1983 the station was sold to MacDonald Broadcasting. Further, the current tower near Meauwataka was constructed in 1993. Wikipedia reminds me that it was CHR content from 1987 - 94, which I do remember.

Re: WLXT new tower
Hot 96 Lakes FM was a great station! Mitch Craig voiceovers, no less!
I was profoundly disappointed when CHR was dumped.
WUPS dumped its Adult CHR format about the same time, perhaps a year earlier.
Can WLXV move closer to Traverse City? Yes, I believe so, but they would need to file an application to permit a change in COL since any significant move would place Cadillac out of city grade range. I'll defer to those more knowledgeable on how complicated a process that might be.
WLXV as a C3 would need to maintain 110 miles of separation from WMJT and WRGZ (each are C2 facilities) and 95 miles from WBDK (a C3 facility).
It would need to maintain 47 miles of separation from WLXT, a second adjacent C1.
It would need to maintain 11 miles of separation from WCCW-FM due to 10.8 MHz IF concerns.
The better bet would probably be to leave WLXV where it is and add either a translator or on-channel booster for Traverse City. MaxxCasting technology makes on channel boosters viable in some cases where they previously would've been unwise.

MacGarb purchased the CCE911 tower from the county. They now own that tower.statmanmi wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2026 5:53 pmMeticulous me happened to notice that the new WLXT transmitting site will be a tower quite close to the one that WBCM is on...but not the exact same one.

Re: WLXT new tower
as of April 28 the new tower is pending!!!
Re: WLXT new tower
WLXT 96.3 lite96 is going on a new tower CCE911 tower
Re: WLXT new tower
You are correct, but it's "now" owned by MacGarb who purchased the CCE911 tower from the county. It's no longer called the CCE911 tower. I would guess it's now called the WLXT 96.3 Lite96 tower.
Radionerd, we are saying the same thing, only using different names for the same tower.

Re: WLXT new tower
So CCE is leasing space from 96 now? Or did CCE move?
Re: WLXT new tower
They were not using that tower anymore, so they sold it. What they're using now is on the State Police tower.
