Starlink?

I am traveling more frequently and looking at dumping cable Internet for Starlink. We can easily fit their $50 100mb plan for home, but also we can travel with it.

Anyone have experience?

Several of my clients have it, and based on my testing, it is a solid option. Everywhere with it where I've done speed tests for were around 120 to 140 mbps download speeds. Do note though that given the nature of satellite-based internet that travel distances are longer and thus latency/ping times are a bit higher than cable internet. Ultimately I don't think I would ever dump my cable internet for it, but if I lived in an area without access to hardwired internet this would probably be my number 1 choice.

Have you considered the Verizon (or AT&T, etc.) 5G internet? It’s essentially plug and go. Runs off their cell phone towers. We have it and are very happy with it. We took it to Florida as my folks don’t have Wi-Fi at their place and it worked excellent

These options aren't available in many places I go.

We travel quite a bit, and are often in places with lousy internet. Occasionally, we are in places with no cellular coverage whatsoever.

I have a Starlink Mini, and love it. The original plan was $50 a month, and you could 'pause' it for a period of time at no charge . When you enabled it, you have a month for $50.

I figured that was too good to be true, and it was. They changed the deal to $5 for the paused months. I suspect they will raise it again in the future.

But, no complaints. 200 gB or better down, 25 or so up. Set up time is very short; angle of incidence to the ground is fixed...you just rotate on a flat surface until it lines up on the app. You are on the air in no time.

It provides a 2 and 5 gHz WIFI router, and if you choose you can set your phone to wifi calling and make calls easily in areas without cellular. We were at the Biltmore when all hell broke loose with the storm, and I was providing internet to most anyone who wanted it. It handled it great.

I have a 'go' kit with a small box, the AC power supply and cord, and a DC ciggy lighter cord for the car. Works great on the roof.

Has an integral automatic, defeatable heater to melt snow or keep a cat warm.

I was an early adopter at $600 for the equipment; much cheaper now.

I work from home, and have the opportunity occasionally to work from my popup camper while in the woods. Cellular just wasn't cutting it anymore in a lot of areas (I generally have two phones with me - one with ATT and one with TMO sim, but also have travelled a lot with Verizon) So I pulled the trigger on the mini, and i'm quite impressed with it.

So far the only thing I don't particularly care for, is having the access point INSIDE the mini which in my case is usually 50' or so from the camper. This can be 'fixed' by running another cable (ethernet) to an access point mounted inside the camper if need be, but hasn't hindered my ability much yet.

It draws about 15w while running speed tests (which average around 250 down, 25 up)

I would consider Starlink my last choice if I needed to have operational internet. When it's working, it works quite well. But the last time I ran VoIP testing on it, it was unstable enough that it kept making calls staticy or cause them to drop out.

For someone with no other internet options (or frequent travelers in those locations), it's great. But compared to cable or fiber it has limitations.

Which VoIP service do you use? I find there are vast differences between vendors, RingCentral being the worst.
