97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
With northern Michigan, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Lansing getting affiliates, any chance in the Tri-Cities????
some good posts on the Detroit page too....
Here we go....
104.9 QBX Alma has a very good signal for me west of Saginaw/Hemlock area... 1280 is useless.... must be directional north-south
I dont see "MAC" broadcasting changng WSAG.. a bad?? choice would be 1400/92.3 translator... 1400 good daytime/night time worthless as it goes bye after 5-10 miles if that far in some directions.... wont change 97.3 JOE FM(transmitter in Essexville)..
Alpha's new owners probably wont change 107.1 urban and 106.3 the core trying to take some of 93.3 WKQZ rock type audience away.
104.5 classic rock has nice signal and air Michigan State football... dont see going away from their format.
Dont see 100.5 WSGW FM(Saginaw Spirit Hockey flagship) splitting too much from sister WSGW 790
1250, 5,000 watts day/1100 nite directional north out of Bridgeport and translator 99.3 play ME TV FM oldies... AM signal not bad during day and surprisely the 99.3 FM gets out pretty good for 250 watts
1440 Bay City... religiously owned....
1490 WMPX/107.7 translator Midland rebroadcast Sunny FM 97.7 licensed to Beaverton
I dont foresee 100.9 the MITT/Midland with xmitter in Pinconning changing from FOX sports/Michigan state sports/high school play by play, a three hour morning local sports talk show that takes texts not phone calls and Great Lakes Loons baseball broadcasts....
interesting choice would be 105.5 WWCK Flint... 102.5 Saginaw seems to kill their audience with their monster signal that gets into Flint and towards Lansing too... i get a good 105.5 here
and never say never but never 96.1 WHNN.... great signal but they seem to happy with the music fomat that wentaway years ago from a classic rock to lighter/bubble gum/pop 90-2000 format
just my two cents worth....

Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
Say, maybe our boneheaded friends at Cumulus could power up the old K-107.3 setup at 1570 AM and 107.3 FM?? Put 97.1 sports network on there, I mean you have an FM signal after all??
Unlikely but just putting my idea out there

Didn’t Cumulus turn in the license for those frequencies?

Nope. Silent STAs are in effect. They still hold the licenses.

Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
With that info, Cumulus should consider doing that if they don’t flip CK105 to this new sports network insteadMWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Nov 08, 2025 5:49 pm Nope. Silent STAs are in effect. They still hold the licenses.

Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
I thought last night and this morning, if Townsquare really wanted to get 97.1 Sports network in the Flint area since they seem to be head over heels about this new sports simulcast agreement and getting it out in their markets, they could first add an HD3 subchannel to WCRZ 107.9, put the sports there. Then they could contact Cumulus and see about purchasing the 107.3 translator and convert that to relay WCRZ HD3 rather than WWCK 1570 (given if Cumulus has no plan of ever repowering the latter). I believe the translator coverage area as is at the WWCK facility was within WCRZ's primary service contour so I think this is a more viable and practical option, since we do remember Townsquare also pulled the plug at the end of 2023 on WFNT 1470 and probably wouldn't want to buy another AM just for the translator. But I don't know how Cumulus would feel about Townsquare having an antenna on their tower, if this does come to fruition I could see Townsquare maybe having to relocate 107.3 away from the WWCK facility, likely onto the WCRZ tower if anywhere. This way, they could maybe put on air another translator elsewhere, I looked and WCRZ's protected contour barely cuts through Saginaw so maybe they can put a translator out that way?Realist wrote: ↑Sat Nov 08, 2025 7:41 pmWith that info, Cumulus should consider doing that if they don’t flip CK105 to this new sports network insteadMWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Nov 08, 2025 5:49 pm Nope. Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
That scenario involves too many hoops and too many broadcasters to be worth the trouble.
I almost hate to suggest this, because it involves a heritage brand on the FM dial, but it would not completely shock me to see Townsquare scrap Club 93.7.
After all, if they're willing to scrap WFGR in Grand Rapids to give WGRD an all-sports FM clustermate, it is not outside of the realm of possibility to see them scrap Club 93.7 in Flint to give Banana 101.5 an all-sports FM clustermate.
Audacy would probably be happy with WRCL, because aside from an improved signal (versus 97.1) in the northern two-thirds of Genesee County, it would also give them a pretty good FM signal into Saginaw and Bay City.

Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
I was driving through that area a couple months ago and was channel surfing. I stopped on Club 93.7 because it shocked me that they play these heavily-edited or bleeped-out songs... it was rather annoying. Does anyone honestly listen to a station where a majority of the music has to be censored? Just use a streaming service to listen to the unedited versions, as the artist intended, IMO.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Nov 11, 2025 8:18 am That scenario involves too many hoops and too many broadcasters to be worth the trouble.

Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
I knew when writing my blurb earlier that scenario was pretty unlikely to happen just didn't mention it. Yes there is always the ability to flip a format. I was thinking in the mindset of not changing any existing station*.teetoppz28 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 11, 2025 10:26 amI was driving through that area a couple months ago and was channel surfing. *= of which aside from a very staticy fringe signal from WCRZ I get NONE of these stations in my area and don't listen to them when driving within range of them anyways
Before it was shuttered in March I used to be able, during the day, to pick up WWCK 1570 in Metro Detroit, once during the winter as far south as I-96 in Livonia (quite weak). Miss the 70/80's mix, their playlist was decent.
As for WRCL, I agree that Townsquare could flip that signal, it gives seamless coverage from Michigan border thru Bay city. I could actually see this scenario happening.
Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
And also back to our 'buddies' at Cumulus, had they not pulled the plug back in March on the failing (in the ratings department) WTRX this new network could have been a perfect fit that might just have brought 1330 back onto the map somewhat at least in Flint since it already was syndicated sports. It would have merely been a programming change rather than a format flip on that station.
Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
I'm just letting you know that Cumulus doesn't not own the WWCK tower or the AM tower. They're owned by tower company, Verticle Bridge. They are happy to lease space to anyone who pays the rent!hb2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 11, 2025 6:02 amI thought last night and this morning, if Townsquare really wanted to get 97.1 Sports network in the Flint area since they seem to be head over heels about this new sports simulcast agreement and getting it out in their markets, they could first add an HD3 subchannel to WCRZ 107.9, put the sports there. Re: 97.1 Detroit statewide sports network
I was walking a trail in Midland yesterday and a gentleman walked by me while listening to 97.1. Was he listening to a stream on his phone? Can you listen to 97.1 over the air in Midland?

Not normally. Midland is about 110 miles as the crow flies from WXYT-FM's tower site.
Does it make it to Midland during tropo conditions? It can.
He almost certainly was listening to the stream. Most newer smartphones no longer have FM reception capability (they are either missing the FM chip, the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack, or both).

Side rant: I HATE people that listen / watch things on their phone and don't use headphones but instead blast the audio for all to hear!
