WiOG: Flint's Hit Station

Unread post by Harvey »

During the Saturday shift, Brandon Edwards kept referring to WIOG, as Flint's Hit Music Station. Are the days of CK105 finally over? CK doesn't have any live jocks in its studio.

I’ve often thought that with 100k watt WIOG booming into Flint, Cumulus needs to stop competing against themselves and turn off Top 40 on CK105.5. I think a simulcast of Z93 from the Tri-Cities would be perfect for that frequency, but what do I know? It would definitely cause some changes at Banana 101.5 if they did that, as the Banana isn’t active rock but mainly a poorly executed Clownsquare corporate mainstream rock station

CK105 has no local ads.

WIOG's jocks seems to be using "(insert random city here)'s hit music channel" during song intros and outros. The DJs probably rotate between the four major cities in the listening area.

I suspect this is a strategy to make the station sound "local," which is not a bad idea.

WIOG is programmed impressively well. I like what I've heard during my online listening session. The on-air product sounds much better than 105.3 Hot FM in Grand Rapids and leaps & bounds better than CK105 in Flint.
Trump is too stupid to know what "reciprocal" means.

WFMK does this, such as random towns like "Howell's workday station" or St John's variety from the 80's till now"

Here's an idea:

Flip WWCK-FM to Classic Hits. (WHNN should have never ditched the format, imo)

Then make WCCW-AM and the 107.3 FM translator a simulcast of either WKQZ or WIOG.

Looks like CK 105's content is completely outsourced - either via satellite or VT'd in Saginaw.

Time to for a change, or a sale.

"Bay City's hit music channel" would especially work when it comes time for the hourly ID.
