"Police Presence" stories
Sometimes you will see newscasts doing a live shot, talking about a police presence at a certain location. It's just a shot of a couple police cars with flashing lights. Sometimes there is no information about what is going on regarding the type of crime, information about people involved, etc. Why do stations do these stories, especially if there is little to no information available? Does it really give them a boost in ratings? Do people care about this if the station is not providing information about what is going on?
Re: "Police Presence" stories
Pretty flashing lights mean ratings because people are stupid as fuck.

Spend some time with today's local news viewers. Things will become totally clear to you.

Re: "Police Presence" stories
We typically don't do "large police presence" stories unless we know what it is but haven't been able to officially confirm anything. But we are actively working on it. Think a murder, standoff, etc. It's a way to get it on the air to acknowledge that we do know SOMETHING is going on and that we aren't ignoring it.

Send the reporter that can coherently explain that we are here gathering information and will bring you any updates we can come up with later in the newscast. Not the one who repeats herself 7 times in a minute because she has nothing to say.AndyD wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:32 am We typically don't do "large police presence" stories unless we know what it is but haven't been able to officially confirm anything.
