WJRW-AM sports program flip?

Unread post by Feature/writer »

It begins next week....
Jim Rome's "The Jungle" is switching distribution from Westwood One to Infinity Sports, and is moving his starting time slot from Noon to 3pm (EST). Meanwhile, the Rich Eisen show is moving from his current home to the Infinity network, and will take over Rome's former time slot.
WJRW (1340AM.106.1FM) has long carried the Jungle, from the day it flipped to its sports format (the old WBBL days). It also airs Eisen's show on a tape-delayed basis from 3-6pm.
What makes the most sense is for the station now to carry Eisen live at noon and then follow it up with "The Jungle," also live in its new time slot 3-6. This would simply mean a switch in times with no change in programs. As of this post (1/2) have not heard any on-air promos about how they'll handle the change..

Seeing how well run Cumulus Grand Rapids is, I don't think it is too far fetched that they have no clue these changes have been made.

Case in point - as of this writing (7:20pm 1/5) AM1340 is off the air (no modulation). It's been down for at least the last 36 hours. However the programming can still be heard on their translator 106.1FM.

Well, the changes have been made as suggested for WJRW 1340AM/106.1FM "The Ticket"'s weekday afternoon sports programming.
The Rich Eisen show runs Noon to 3pm from the Infinity Sports Network, and Jim Rome's The Jungle airs from 3 to 6p, courtesy of Westwood One.
Further update: The AM1340's air signal was finally restored earlier today (Mon. Jan. 6) after an approximate 48-hour silence......

Isn't it wild how Sports Radio dominates in Detroit but in West Michigan can't acquire hardly any listeners.

I chalk it up to the fact that, as many great things that the Grand Rapids area offers, it is an extremely boring sports market. A bunch of minor league and D2 teams that may be fun to go watch here and there, but in the grand scheme no one cares about. When Hugh Jass is your star sport talk host, you know your town sucks from a sports standpoint.

I've always thought it was useless to have 2 sports stations in this mediocre sports market, at least theyre not both on 50k-100k watt stations like with 107.3 the Ball and ESPN 96.1, 96.1 might as well be on 1230.
