Scripps’ Bid to Change Local News Moves Ahead, Despite Speedbumps

"Sources also said the initiative created a struggle within Scripps between those pushing the new approach and an old guard more interested in next month’s ratings and revenue than the future of TV news."

“There’s a struggle inside the company about how you get there and treat people respectfully,” said one former Scripps exec. “It was very much top down the way it was communicated and some if it didn’t happen the way they said it would happen.”

They should try some style changes to make their stuff sound hard hitting… kinda like 7 was 20 or more years ago. Changing your writing style and tone are free. It’s muted and flat these days and that doesn’t get people to watch nor is it terribly compelling.

That is what has been going on at 7 and the anchor desk! I have been wondering this for about a year. Some of the newscasts like the 12:30pm, 4pm, 7pm are the scrips version and they are so hard to watch and boring. I tune in to see local news stories happening today not somthing that happened last week or special interest community stories. It will be interesting to see how long they stick with this format. It states the reason for this is it gives anchors more time to do stories in the community but I have not really noticed the anchors doing more stories than usual. Carolyn Clifford, or Goenda Lewis hardly ever do stories outside of the studio. The other reason I tune in is the live aspect of things. It feels real time and late breaking but if almost everything is pre recorded they could record the whole show hours before it even airs and stories could be further outdated?

Why does Adam still have a job since the Scripps stock is tanking below $2 dollars. I don't know if WXYZ sister TV station Fox17 does the Scroppscast maybe it be 4PM not sure as I don't watch at 4PM. I don't like the pre-recorded weathercast when Reece Cole isn't on which is Thur-Sun with Michael Fish doing the pre-recorded weathercast good thing no major outbreak of severe weather on those days guessing if it was major Reece would come in and do the weather.

That is why Fox17 shouldn't have cut Candance or Isabella as there are only Kevin & Reece in the weather department at the station great going Adam why don't you do the weather for Fox17 and leave the office in Cincy?

They moved up their Assistant News Director into the News Director position. He’s been at 7 since 2002… maybe there’s an outside chance he can do something with making this new format integrate better.
