What will 98.7 in NYC do next?

Hey, some of us like to talk about happenings in other areas of the country, too. Here's the place to do it.

My hope for 98.7 is to return to an urban ac format, similar to Detroit's 105.9 or Mix 92.3 or Toledo's Mix 95.7 and sometimes the Juice 107.3. It would be good competition for New York's 107.5 WBLS. Having said that, I could see a foreign language broadcast on that station. Maybe a simulcast of Jersey City's AM 620 WSNR, Davidzon Russian Radio.

Let's chip in and buy it. WREO. Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Loverboy and Journey 24 hours a day. We can't lose.

Mix 97.1 out in Ashtabula, OH might have an issue with you using those calls…

What is WEPN-AM 1050 in New York now, since ESPN radio is now on the new WHSQ 880? I didn't think 1050 was ever part of the Emmis portfolio.

Country would be a good move for 98.7.

Emmis used to own 1050 in NYC back in the 1980s.

FCC Rules would allow 1050 to return to its original call letters, WHN. Art Vuolo tried to convince them to do that when ESPN took over. WEPN sounds silly, like "Weapon". I don't think the call letters WEPN even sound like a Sports Station.

They would have to strike a deal for WREO-FM to change to another set of call letters. They can't just duplicate used call letters.

Found my answer about 1050. Good Karma owns 1050 outright and airs all ESPN Radio network programs and games, when overlapped from 880.

Not a bad mix from the sample I heard on formatchange. They are definitely leaning on the “cutesy” aspect of it, based on the imaging.

Kinda curious what the format wheel lands on Tuesday…

Edit: Had a chance to look at the full song log on RadioInsight. Looks like a modern AC to me; the mix definitely reminds me of the former 93.9 The River once they added more pop to the playlist.

And don't forget, only the hit singles... no deep cuts.
By the way, how much you gonna pay the Ashtabula OH station to acquire those calls? :rollin

As for 98.7 NYC, this feels like Blink 102.7 2.0.
