Big congrats to my former coworker Ebony Stith, the new head of the Flint-Saginaw chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. It called out MLive for its use of old booking photos for candidates running to succeed Mayor Neeley in the State House of Representatives.

This incident shows why it is so important for newspapers and TV stations that cover persons of color to actually have persons of color in positions of leadership and influence.

Sadly, that’s not the case at most Flint news organizations. At least now we have an outside organization that can hold GMs, News Directors, etc. accountable when they do a poor job of covering our communities and the issues that impact them.
