CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
Re: CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
I truly believe Keenan is a man of integrity and skill. Instead of complaining about him on a message board, I would give the man a chance. Again, he’s cleaning up a mess caused by Paul and Lisa.

I would say so too but it’s not like it would hold its own in say Chicago or something. Way too many mistakes… even lowly 32 would laugh them out of town.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 7:04 pmChannel 4 is the best of the bunch.Rate This wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 3:45 pmFrankly comparing 2, 4 and 7 to stations in other top 15 markets leaves a lot to be desired. None of them are terribly great.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 2:37 pm Maybe some people genuinely believe the product they are putting on the air sucks?
I personally don't believe it is a terrible product, but it is generally subpar when compared to 2, 4 and 7.

Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

I would put WDIV far above the likes of WKYC in Cleveland or even KARE tv in the twin cities. But that’s just me.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 7:04 pmChannel 4 is the best of the bunch.Rate This wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 3:45 pmFrankly comparing 2, 4 and 7 to stations in other top 15 markets leaves a lot to be desired. As bad as the product and newsroom morale is at 62, I wonder how the billing for 2024 is going? If the newsroom made some profit for Paramount this year then CBS can work on making things better to harvest the political money when 2026 rolls around. But if 62 lost money on their newsroom this year despite the deluge of political money flooding the market, CBS will have some tough decisions to make.

Station budgets for next year are most likely done and tighter due to the election money gone. Skydance takes over paramount early next year so that will be the first big test for Detroit. If there’s also a shake up in leadership in the News division can definitely expect a shake up on the local level.Editorcj wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 11:57 pm As bad as the product and newsroom morale is at 62, I wonder how the billing for 2024 is going? If Skydance is all in more on the streaming side of things, the company could sell off the Detroit station easily. Or go back to what 62 used to be, which was more programming with occasional news updates.
Re: CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
Cutting a news department is not the route to go. More than likely, they will do a reset and hire new people. CBS did that 22 years ago and it didn’t go over very well at all.
I think WKBD is going to get sold.
I also think there was a lot of sabotage at WWJ. A lot of moles imo were outed. It was a mess. Lyons is cleaning up a mess. It’s not going to be a quick fix.

I think the 4pm newscast will get cancelled by CBS. That’s it!!!MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 9:13 am If and when 50 sells, it will be interesting to see which syndie programming contracts travel with 50 or get plucked by CBS for use on 62.
Better question is, will WWJ remain in the building if and when CBS sell’s WKBD?

They’ll go as far as they need to in order to make money and make it make sense. Especially given the upcoming steep drop in available revenues.GS3580 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:44 amI think the 4pm newscast will get cancelled by CBS. I know evenings are doing a lot better. Issues are with the mornings it seems. I don’t think 4pm is doing good at all.
I think they will try to salvage mornings but cut the 4pm newscast as it’s not needed.
