Just so we're clear about where you stand the use of guns/weapons:

-Old lady seeking petition signatures - ok to shoot her in the back
After trespassing, being asked to leave, and threatening the property owners.. I take it you're not an advocate for property rights?
-Reporters knocking on your door to ask questions - ok to hold a knife to their throat
Remind me, was this a creditentialed reporter or a "blogger"? Because I don't remember being taught to trespass in J school.
-Terrorist paragliders - perfectly justified, so long as they're attacking israel

-Father killing a judge who was diddling his underage teenage daughter - should rot in prison
I think you molested my kid, I can shoot you on a hunch?

There is a very good discussion of this on GP. The town where this happened is very small, and everybody knows everybody else. Apparently, it was well known in the very small community that the judge was also molesting other underage girls, and some say, boys also. They previously felt powerless because of the system protecting the judge.

If this is in fact true, I can guarantee that the sheriff is a hero in that town.

I don't normally condone vigilante justice, but there are circumstances where I'm happy to look the other way. This may end up being one of those circumstances.

If the sheriff's daughter was indeed raped by the judge, I would find the sheriff "not guilty" at trial if I served on the jury.

The defense, of course, would need to prove rape had occurred.

A judge might intervene if a jury was not looking at the crime without considering these circumstances. They are not related in legal terms.

This is why we have a judicial process. So that crazy people can't just kill people on a whim.

I sure would find him guilty. We don’t need to start normalizing vigilante Justice unless you plan on making that ok on a broader scale and let the courts decide if the wrong was enough to warrant killing the other guy. Such a precedent would be pretty ugly in its execution.

And your point? Every murderer in prison felt they had a reason to kill. Are you saying some of them should be let go?

I missed where there were eyewitnesses in either OJ killing his ex and Ron Goldman or ohio state trash Casey Anthony killing her daughter.

You guys seem to be saying if it’s some extreme thing somebody is doing like the accusation here it should automatically be A-ok to go shoot and kill the person. Because that is the exact precedent that would be set.

If you kill all the witnesses, I guess you can't have eyewitness testimony.

Read my post carefully. I said there are extreme circumstances where I might be willing to look the other way when vigilante justice is carried out. I'm not saying it should be codified or legalized, nor am I necessarily suggesting this sheriff shouldn't be prosecuted. What I'm saying is that when that jury ends up in a deliberation room, if I'm on that jury, I might be arguing that this is one of those rare instances where justice has ultimately already prevailed and throwing this guy in prison would be counter-productive towards the end of achieving justice.

But the legal system runs on precedents so it opens the door for someone to do this same thing and possibly get off with the lawyers coring this case. We simply don’t do this in the United States. Period. You might feel that way but if you are on a jury your feelings are irrelevant. You’re supposed to go where the facts take you.
