I have really enjoyed your input on this site over time. Now with Ron departed I just wanted to throw this out if at all
interested. If you are so inclined in getting together to talk Ron memories, sports in general, or whatever in between I am
often at Hermann's Olde Towne Grill and Pub in Plymouth mid afternoonish on weekdays. Just ask the bartender for Rob and I conceivably will be in attendance. Cheers.

I am almost afraid to put faces to the names, but having had actually met wit Ron almost 40 years ago, I guess it can’t get any worse. I do feel like this site has been kind of a side family this last decade. Looking forward to running into the brethren down the road when I get over to Olde Plymouth

Interview with Hall of Fame goalie Ed Giacomin

In an hour dominated by talk of old players - with the usual, 'are they still alive?' 'do they have dementia,' 'how good/bad they looked' - my favorite moment (at about the 15:00 minute mark) was the state of Harry Howell's health. After Giacomin earlier said that Howell (& Stan Mikita) had dementia, Ron revisited Howell's status. He's "still alive, isn't he?" Giacomin said he was, that he was living at his home, but was "not taking visitors ... he wouldn't even know who you are." The always attentive Ron, reacting as if he had a new paying sponsor, or a guest under the age of 40, said, "That is fantastic!"

Giacomin said that Howell's condition was like Gordie, who, in his presence, had to ask his grandson who Frank Mahovlich was. Ron, of course, was not going to miss an opportunity to say, "And yet. This is strange. He recognized me at the end."

Ron took a couple of opportunities to point out he had been on Don Cherry's show. Once to say he was on "a couple of weeks before" Lou Fontinetto, who "looked fantastic." Ron was surprised when Giacomin told him Fontinetto had passed away. The other time was when Kurt brought up Cherry. Ron asked Kurt if he had seen him on Cherry's show. He had not.

We learn this hour that JJ was once the lead singer of the Golden Jets, a band named after Bobby Hull.

We also learn of two more of Ron's good friends, Ron Harris & Andy Brown.

We also learn that, despite his frequent mention of Marty Pavelich "skiing every day" that Ron has never met him. Although he's with Matt, Marty's younger brother, the former NHL linesman, "all the time."

Ron sent Giacomin off with talk of him coming back again next year. As far as I remember, Giacomin has not returned.

Ron concluded with, "What a good show."

I guess Ron never met the recently deceased Marty Pavelich. Maybe that's why Marty lived to the age of 96, and never risked suffering the fate of the "Cameron Curse."

Was late in February another freezing winter morn
I was out shoveling snow we had got dumped on by another storm
I headed up the drive to get me something tasty to nosh
The wife hollared into the garage, clean those boots off Stosh
Then she said I got some news posted on the local buzzboard
Today Ron Cameron was found dead on a cheap motel room floor


I asked the wife to please pass me a bowl of chilly
Well, Ronnie C never had a lick of decorum, his shows were silly
There’s gonna be five more inches of snow, I’ll have to plow
She said it was eventually gonna get Ronnie anyhow
Seems like quality shows rarely get broadcast on PON
And now yer sayin’ Ron Cameron is off the air again

And edj posted bout when he and Bobbert and Momo
Cried from laughing talking about Ron’s show
And was it Momo talkin’ to him at Rams Horn just last week
I’ll have some more of those day old scallops, he really was a freak
Somebody saw him in an Oakland county library recently
So Ronnie C’s been found on a motel floor you’re telling me?

The old lady said to me, this hasn’t ruined your appetite
I been cooking this slop ain’t you gonna save me a bite
That nice webmaster metalhead posted something today
Said he’d be pleased to break bread some day, and oh he relayed
Said he saw one of Ron’s many female listeners riding in a junker Dodge
And she and him were pulling in to the lot of a local motor lodge

A couple of months have passed since word was posted bout Ronnie C
Mr Positive is calling other shows, around the D
There was an STD going around, an unnamed listener caught it last spring
And Kurt from Frasier doesn’t seem to wanna list anything
Me, I’m twisting the dial of my radio now and then
And occasionally landing on the static signal of WPON

This is a significant addition to what Mark Wilson called The Ron Cameron Experience. Very atmospheric, and it skillfully ties together many of our experiences. Another impressive example of the collective creativity that will soon be rewarded with another unsurpassable milestone—2 million views.

Milestone accomplished!

I wonder if we'll get to 2,000 pages. We've done about 50 since he died (https://mibuzzboard.com/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 80#p776293). We've got about 175 to go.
