They could display it near this old motel room at the Henry Ford Museum.

In the spirit of authenticity, the interior of the car should be enhanced with catsup-smeared Big Mac wrappers and yellowing copies of USA Today Sports Weekly.

That motel room needs some scraps of paper with phone numbers strewn around. (No names, just phone numbers)

Trying to remember who Ron thought was the baseball GOAT—probably Ty Cobb (because Ron met him) or maybe Ted Williams.

Ode To Ronnie C

Was late in February another freezing winter morn
I was out shoveling snow we had got dumped on by another storm
I headed up the drive to get me something tasty to nosh
The wife hollared into the garage, clean those boots off Stosh
Then she said I got some news posted on the local buzzboard
Today Ron Cameron was found dead on a cheap motel room floor

I asked the wife to please pass me a bowl of chilly
Well, Ronnie C never had a lick of decorum, his shows were silly
There’s gonna be five more inches of snow, I’ll have to plow
She said it was eventually gonna get Ronnie anyhow
Seems like quality shows rarely get broadcast on PON
And now yer sayin’ Ron Cameron is off the air again

And edj posted bout when he and Bobbert and Momo
Cried from laughing talking about Ron’s show
And was it Momo talkin’ to him at Rams Horn just last week
I’ll have some more of those day old scallops, he really was a freak
Somebody saw him in an Oakland county library recently
So Ronnie C’s been found on a motel floor you’re telling me?

The old lady said to me, this hasn’t ruined your appetite
I been cooking this slop ain’t you gonna save me a bite
That nice webmaster metalhead posted something today
Said he’d be pleased to break bread some day, and oh he relayed
Said he saw one of Ron’s many female listeners riding in a junker Dodge
And she and him were pulling in to the lot of a local motor lodge

A couple of months have passed since word was posted bout Ronnie C
Mr Positive is calling other shows, around the D
There was an STD going around, an unnamed listener caught it last spring
And Kurt from Frasier doesn’t seem to wanna list anything
Me, I’m twisting the dial of my radio now and then
And occasionally landing on the static signal of WPON
This is a significant addition to what Mark Wilson called The Ron Cameron Experience. Very atmospheric, and it skillfully ties together many of our experiences. Another impressive example of the collective creativity that will soon be rewarded with another unsurpassable milestone—2 million views.
That two million threshold might be tough. Getting those next 53k views could be akin to an aging Combrero trying to achieve some hallowed milestone. If Ron were still around turning out weekly fodder, I’m sure that mark would have been surpassed by now. Good luck to us.

With Jake Wood finishing a strong third.

I don't recall if Ron ever fully weighed in on the baseball GOAT discussion, but I think he thought Williams & Bob Feller the best hitter & pitcher he saw. And Al Avila, of course, the best GM.

I have to get The Baseball 100. I understand that seven Tigers made the list: Cabrera, Cobb, Gehringer, Greenberg, Kaline, Scherzer & Verlander.

Seven out of 100 is pretty decent. The Tigers All Time batting line up would match up very well against just about most franchises. Yankees are the obvious winners overall.

Since this is a media related board, how would our various broadcasters rate historically? Anyone beside Ernie in the discussion for top 20 or so?

I started picking my brain for different people who broadcast for the Tigers. For some reason, the name Joe Pellegrino popped up, maybe because he was one of the Tiger broadcasters when my family moved here in 1977.

It turns out he died a couple of months ago.

https://www.inquirer.com/obituaries/obi ... 40419.html

That led me to another scavenger hunt through Newspapers.com, where I turned up this quote from the Lansing State Journal of June 22, 1977, by a young columnist named Lynn Henning:
AND, SORRY to report Al Kaline has not gotten any better as a baseball announcer. For a guy who knows more about baseball than you or I could ever hope to know, you get precious little insight from Kaline.

Most of the time he spends stumbling through the English language. Or repeating himself: "That was a real fine catch by Ben Oglivie, he just got a good jump on the ball, raced over and made a real fine catch."

During last weekend's Cleveland series, Larry Osterman was in the booth with Kaline and George Kell, and I couldn't believe how much smoother the telecast was. Osterman, of course, is only used on weekend road games. What a difference. Osterman makes Kell much better. Kell is more relaxed, informal, humorous and informative.

BY CONTRAST, when Joe Pellegrino is hooked up with Kell and Kaline, I feel like I'm listening to someone grate their fingernails across a blackboard. Kell is not happy with the situation, either, and while no one will admit it publicly, Pellegrino drives Kell up the wall.

The situation would clear if Osterman returns fulltime.

The Jumbotron-I always envisioned old school Sony tvs hanging.

B-I-N-G-O

Always was a little perplexed my the line “ladies who trim”

The Free Press had an article about "Say Nice Things About Detroit" Emily Gail's pending return to Detroit after decades living in Hawaii. In the mid-tens, Emily would occasionally call Ron. When those calls came to an end, Ron would plead to Emily, who he just knew was listening, to call. "Aloha, Emily." There was never any mention of whether Ron got together with Emily when he vacationed with Gabe Kapler. Had Ron lived, I feel confident that, back in Detroit, Emily would have been an in-studio guest.

On Newspapers.com, I found this interesting piece of information in the September 4, 2012 edition of West Hawaii Today:

I found the Facebook page, and found a link to the show (https://www.facebook.com/profile/100063 ... ?q=Cameron), but unfortunately the show could not be found (https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/espn ... 8_53-07_00).

I was really bummed.

I can imagine the effect this appearance had on Ron's ego. He had to be walking on clouds for a while.

Momo / Bobbert / Fellow Buzzboarders -

I have really enjoyed your input on this site over time. Now with Ron departed I just wanted to throw this out if at all
interested. If you are so inclined in getting together to talk Ron memories, sports in general, or whatever in between I am
often at Hermann's Olde Towne Grill and Pub in Plymouth mid afternoonish on weekdays. Just ask the bartender for Rob and I conceivably will be in attendance. Cheers.
