Nothing more on this from Martin. Here are a couple of his recent posts:
Hi Friend,

I want to let you know that Ron Cameron does not have any fundraisers or gofundme accounts as of March 7, 2024

If someone asks for donations, please let me know.
What was your favorite commercial that Ron read on the air?
As to this latter post, I'm conflicted. Was it his Larry Flynt Gentleman's Club commercial, the soul food restaurant surprised to hear that they catered bar mitzvahs, or the French restaurant that served "day-old scallops"?
  • Loving Touch with the Kama Sutra oil (Bob Page got a big thrill from that one)
  • "Sports Fans' Journal, still going strong!"

A somber and wistful parody of "Abraham, Martin, and John"

Anybody here seen my old friend Alex?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He produced a lot of programs,
But he knew when to move on,
I just looked around, and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Matt?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He tried to show some backbone,
Which really ticked off Ron,
I just looked around, and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He called Ron a "crazy man,"
Which probably doomed his fate,
I just looked around, and he's gone.

Didn't you love the callers they let through?
Didn't they try to find some scores for you and me?
And they'll be free
Some day soon, with Ron a bad memory.

Anybody here seen my old friend Luke?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He's currently on the hot seat,
And we wish him best of luck,
But like the others, he'll be gone.
Some additional lyrics:

Anybody here seen my old friend Superfan?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He'd feed lotta people but it seems his buys would be unsung
You know I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He kneed lotta people but it seems he stood by Ron
I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Ron?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He needed lotta people but it seems he could not bide his tongue
I just looked around and he's gone

Didn't you love the things that they misunderstood?
Didn't they try to find some guests for you and me?
And now we are at sea
Many days too soon, to our dismay

Anybody here seen my old friend Cowboy?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I heard him talkin' until he was stilled
With Superfan, Martin and Ron
Anybody here seen my old friend Kurt?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
The baseball season's starting, and he wants to fight with Ron
I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Rich?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He wants to bore Ron's listeners with excerpts from his book
I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Denny?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He got much help from Cameron but never said "Thank you,"
I just looked around and he's gone

So many people - guests, callers, emailer Meredith - who, like, the insurance company callers before, have now fallen off our radar with Ron's passing. I'll continue to be on the lookout for Kurt on the MLB Trade Rumors chats. And the legal pages to monitor the progress of Phil Regan's lawsuit.

For any fans of the old Drew & Mike show, hearing Ron's butchered ad read reminded me of the Anna Nicole Smith drop of her, addled, responding - as I recall - to news of a protester who set himself on fire. I'm not certain of the exact quote, but it was something like, "Eww, that sounds painful."

Match Game '24: The Celestial Edition

Contestants include:
  • Ken from Livonia and other long-time callers who have passed away.
  • People who left this world soon after talking with Ron.
  • E-mailers who (as Ron often guessed) died.
  • Deceased members of the 1961 Detroit Tigers.
  • Brett Somers, Richard Dawson, and Charles Nelson Reilly, who get to see their best efforts sabotaged by silly panelist answers.

Bobbert's posting of "Match Game '24" had a lot of truth in that I believe Ron's ultimate goal was to be the center of attention around a group of sports celebrities. I recall Mr. Cameron's stated ideal was to have a restaurant/bar featuring his radio show replete with interviewee(s) center stage.

Similar to the pause at about 11:03 before “I’m hearing an echo”

Thanks. It's easy to imagine this version of Match Game having hour-long episodes, with many conversational tangents between Ron and the different participants.

There was an interesting Japanese movie titled After Life, where a person could pick one day of their life to re-live for eternity. Maybe something like this happened for Ron, with Match Game '24 turning into Match Game Eternity.

The public ballot for the 2024 Michigan Sports Hall of Fame is out. As expected, Ron's name is not among the media finalists. Surprisingly, Al Ackerman's name is on it. I would think he would have been elected by now. I'm guessing his old school, opinionated style might rub some modern voters the wrong way—and helps explain why Ron has never even been nominated.

Surprised, too, that Ackerman isn't already inducted. Maybe his induction would open the door for Ron. But like Al, it would have to be years later, when Ron can be remembered exclusively for his early radio & TV career. I wish Ron was around so the big-hearted one could bask in the nomination of a "friend" like Pinky Deras. Or not.
