Who can forget when Lindsey was working behind the scenes on Rons show and her fan base that is around the US called in on Rons show

Interesting that Ron & Walter WInchell have the same death dates. Winchell's career arc was one that would come to mind when thinking of Ron. Although Ron, obviously, never enjoyed Winchell's enormous career success, their later life trajectories had some parallels.

Larry King, who replaced Winchell at the Miami Herald, recalled:

He was so sad. You know what Winchell was doing at the end? Typing out mimeographed sheets with his column, handing them out on the corner. That's how sad he got. When he died, only one person came to his funeral: his daughter.

That day of far-flung callers reminded me of this call, never to be repeated.

And speaking of out-of-state callers, how can we forget the once-regular calls from Rich from New York (who, as I recall, once played for frequent guest Bob Miller)? Rich would call asking only when the next game was for a particular Detroit sports team.

Matt, for as much as you came after us for going after Ron, you should know that likely nothing would have raised Ron's blood pressure more than your post. Not attacking a call of a game official. Not questioning Wilt's GOAT status.

And for the record, I don't think Ron was gay. Or straight, for that matter.
