Yeah, that video is awkward. Love how Grace Slick is singing as if she is the voice of the youth, when in reality I believe she is 46 years old here.billmich88888 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 5:07 pm and that video was memorable for all the wrong reasons

I think you just started a new commercial campaign!

In between JA & JS was a marvelous amalgamation of talents including Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, David Crosby and Graham Nash, along with members of the Jefferson Airplane which billed itself as Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship. They all came together to release one fine album, 1970's Blows Against the Empire. It's a concept album written by Kantner with that great San Fran sound of the era. It actually won a science fiction Hugo Award! I spin it every now and again.

Damn, I just heard one of my all-time favorites selling Toyota Trucks in a TV ad -- "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by Traffic.
At least it was the original and not bowdlerized for commercial purposes.

As for We Built this city. Whether you like or dislike the song, it did become Airplane/Starships first ever Number One Single.

And then Grace Slick left Starship and joined a reformed Jefferson Airplane for one last (self titled) album in 1989. Grace may have hated the slick (pun intended) pop-rock/soft rock songs she recorded with Starship, but the single "Summer of Love" ended up hitting the Top 20 on the Adult Contemporary chart - and missing the Hot 100.
Speaking of female rockers, the Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You" left a sour taste in my mouth a few years ago when it was sung by Flo in a Progressive commercial. Chrissie Hynde must have really needed the money.

Xfinity is now using "She's a Rainbow" from The Rolling Stones' classic psychedelic album Their Satanic Majesties Request, the same music with different singer. The song is somewhat appropriate since it's backing a little girl's fantasy figure skating performance, but I doubt that's what Jagger & Richards had in mind.

I kind of thought the Rollings Stones disowned that album?

Burger King is using The Who's "Baba O'Riley" in their new Reclaim the Flame campaign. Why? I've no idea, other than perhaps it's more recognizable to a target demo than anything A.I. can come up with.
I noticed Pete Townshend has been doing the talk show circuit of late, so maybe he's selling out in toto before riding off into the sunset.

This makes me not want to buy that car. At least it wasn't Joy Division.
