No disrespect to anyone at 7 (its not their fault). I think its more a corporate thing. Scripps has turned the station into a generic, vanilla and boring product. A decade or more ago, it had punch. High energy, good show opens, veteran reporters who broke stories etc. That could be said for all the stations in town frankly.

I cannot believe a network like CBS cannot put a local newscast together. Are CBS executives former Wal Mart greeters? Jennifer Lyons is great at what she does. However; she is not a miracle worker. Looks like she has a big mess to clean up.
Their news set looks like a warehouse dance night club.
Anchors seem cookie cutter. Weather screen is a TV set.
CBS executives are lost

FTVLive said a Detroit reporter emailed him multiple times to complain. I wonder if it was the 7 reporter that he posted about two days prior regarding a post on her Instagram.Rate This wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 5:22 pmA lot of 7’s reporters are 5 years or less of experience maybe a little more. Nothing wrong with that. You gotta start somewhere. A lot of corp entry level jobs want 15+ years of experience(these are jobs you get when finishing college by the way.)Rate This wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 5:22 pmA lot of 7’s reporters are 5 years or less of experience maybe a little more. They must have some decent people coaching them however because they usually show marked improvement by the time they leave.TC Talks wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 7:03 pmEven when they don't know the English language?Michiganviewer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 6:49 pm Nothing wrong with that. Re: CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
It’s pretty funny reading the comments on here. The bitter employee who posts on multiple CBS Detroit posts here, says things like Pytlowani and Lisa whatever her name is “ran the place into the ground.”
There wasn’t a place for them to run into the ground before Pytlowani. He started the entire news department, moron. Largely assuming, I’m sure, that his tenure was limited at best.
The station will go through numerous news directors and managers as long as they remain a newsroom. Just like the other 3 stations.
People get fired and hired all the time. And local (and national) news, in my opinion, is absolutely horrible right now. It will never be high quality again. That’s just facts.

It could be high quality, if management would get their heads out of their asses and stop being so damn greedy.

Re: CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
CBS was going to have a tough time no matter what they did. They tried to come out as they were going to be something different and it didn't work.
I don't believe you can really blame four seasoned managers.
Matt Triplett has been a successful Managing Editor at 2 and 4. I think it was a smart hire to get off the ground there. But with Matt's experience - he is a no nonsense kind of guy - the way newsrooms used to be.
Paul Pytlowany- is also very experienced. I think he could bring alot to a newsroom-- just probably not at the ND level for a station that was working from the ground up.
Lisa Palmer- a lot of people don't like her management style. She says it how it is. But, she knows news and knows what needs to be covered. I think she may have struggled with trying CBS's new approach of covering news when she is down deep cover breaking news and big news stories kind of person.
Steve L- the EP- has alot of great big market experience. He was at Fox 2 so he is from here and knows the market. He was successful as an EP in Houston- so he knows his stuff as well.
These are all four very experienced Detroit news managers... so something is not adding up.
My personal belief is that the majority of the newsroom was young and inexperienced- probably not something any of these managers are used to at that level. This generation is not accepting the old style of newsrooms of holding people accountable, expecting them to get sources and story ideas and calling them out when they don't.

The newscasts has greatly improved since Paul and Lisa left. Much better presentation and no chaos.
I think the people complaining are the same toxic individuals who were let go.

Re: CBS Detroit Swings the Axe
As for Terrence Friday, he’s one of the best anchors there. Definitely the best make anchor. He’s got major market talent who deserves to be an evening anchor. Him and Humphries work a lot better together than Skversky and Humphries.
Humphries os defiantly the best and Friday is not too far behind.
