How hard can this really be to make it successful?

Jack Kevorkian seemed to have a pretty solid system that seemed pretty dignified to end life upon choice. Probably wasn't that expensive either.

Are you suggesting there should be choices? What if people with life sentences had a chance to self-select for euthanasia?

We currently have choices in most states. We can sentence them to life, to death, or some lesser amount of incarceration. I'm just saying that Jack seemed to have a system that worked pretty effectively so I'm not sure why we're making really complicated (and potentially risky) to follow through with capital punishment.

But, I wouldn't stop a discussion about allowing folks who have already been sentenced to life terms of incarceration from self-selecting a death penalty and following through with their wishes.

He happens to be in a wheelchair too, so it will really make for extraordinary television.

Everybody who voted for this administration should be so proud.

Perhaps they can up the wow factor and position him on the edge of a cliff so he can tumble backwards off of it when he gets shot? Or would it be better to shoot him in the back and have him go forwards?

As appalled as I personally am over this, it is only fair to point out that much of our society LOVES blood and gore and violence and death. Just turn on network tv any night between 9 and 11 PM, and if it isn't reality TV, it is some drama showcasing blood, gore, and violence.

Or how about Game of Thrones? That ran for nearly a decade and was incredibly violent.

Society loves this shit.

Society loves it when it’s fake. There hasn’t been a public execution since 1936 nor a suggestion of one for a reason. Nobody wants to see someone actually get shot to death. Just look at the news. They ALWAYS freeze it before the actual moment they die some horrible way. That’s not because they are somehow pearl clutching liberals. It’s because there is zero market for watching people actually cease to exist.

I think you'd be surprised. And this was over 20 years ago. https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna4353934

21 percent would PAY to watch.

I am surprised but support doesn’t necessarily mean watching it yourself…
Thirty-seven percent of those polled said they did not think executions should be televised. And 54 percent said they wouldn’t watch an execution on television.

EXCELLENT IDEA! Play that Benny Hill music as he tumbles down.

I wonder if Bryce will have a watch party for this?

To clarify, I am suggesting that people sentenced to life in prison should be allowed to self-select into the death penalty. I also think people should have a say in how the final sentence is carried out.
