Mix 95.7 Toledo dead air?

Unread post by 80sTalkRadioFan »

I tuned into Toledo's "Mix 95.7" WIMX to find nothing but a silent/open carrier (aka dead air) both over the air and via their Tunein stream. WJZE "Hot 97.3" has the same problem. Hoping it's nothing major, as I enjoy those stations, especially 95.7.

Nah. Probably just a technical issue, considering there isn't a soul in the building. Dead air is better than paying some kid 15 bucks an hour to sit and make sure everything is good.

True! Still out, as of Monday morning. Maybe they'll be back on later today.

Glad they are back! My first thought when they went silent, so close to the end of the month and/or Labor Day Weekend was they were changing formats or being sold, especially since there are 2 other similar formatted stations in the area.

Urban LLC has not subscribed to the ratings in eons but last I saw, WJUC and WJZE were about neck and neck. Mix was well into the 4s.

I've heard Urban put a ton of money into WJZE soon after they purchased it from RASP, which was badly needed as the station's audio sounded like a clock radio and the signal was so spotty, that has improved quite a bit.

The only markets Urban LLC has is Toledo and Starkville-Columbus MS. Their portfolio used to be much bigger, they sold their cluster around Muscle Shoals a few years back.

Three other similar stations if you count 94.9 The Beat.
Beat and Hot are the competitors for the Hip-Hop audience. WJUC evolved to Urban AC a while back.

Mix had the Urban AC format all to themselves for so long so The Juice shifting focus to Urban AC made sense. If I recall, 95.7 flipped to Urban AC in late 1995, before that they were Y95.7 WYHK with a young country format. Prior to Mix, the main urban station was 1520am WVOI and 1470 had a go at it in the early mid 1990s as Magic 1470, after they dropped CNN radio.

As stated, most of the mentioned stations do not subscribe to the ratings so I am not sure where all of them are at ratings wise, 94.9 is around the mid 2's. Which is respectable for a translator.
