Re: College football 2026
I explicitly said I did NOT think this was a rig job. My opinion is that it was either pro-Michigan or Pro-Big 10 bias on the part of the replay crew, that they were pre-inclined to add a second and were just looking for the evidence to justify it. Did you watch that 38 second video released by the Big 10? That deliberation was a joke, IMO. They took very little time reviewing much of anything and as soon as they had what they felt was justification to put that second back on the clock, that's what they did.
You put Western Michigan in that spot, and I predict that replay conversation looks very different, that they take more time, that the clock discrepancies are discussed, and the conclusion reached that there's not refutable video evidence to overturn the call.

Re: College football 2026
Here's what seems to be an unemotional look at things.
One missing statement that would really help put this to bed should come from the B1G clarifying with certainty if their replay officials have access to / would be allowed to use what goes out on the TV broadcast to help make a ruling. And truthfully in this case, even if they had access to the NBC feed, the replay officials wouldn't have used it. What they saw was very clear to them very quickly from the conference's system.

Why stop there?? Why not show hundreths or thousands of a second? Why not nanoseconds?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 10:10 am ...
At minimum, some process changes need to be considered. The most obvious one is to begin showing tenths of a second on the game clock near the end of the second quarter and near the end of the fourth quarter.
Heck, at some point you have to round off. And 0.499 seconds rounds to ZERO. Same way that 0.0000000000001 rounds to ZERO. If there's a FULL SECOND (or more) on the clock, then continue playing the game.
Does anyone think if WMU was in that position they'd get another shot at the endzone?bmw wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 4:18 pm I explicitly said I did NOT think this was a rig job. Re: College football 2026
I do.
The people that make those calls take their responsibilities very seriously. There is enough of a digital trail with these systems that someone trying to play favorites is going to be exposed pretty easily.
In the history of video replay, is there even one example of a replay official jobbing the system like that?
Everyone knew that play was going to be looked at on review.

The following passage is from the Big Ten's statement. Who the hell knows if they're telling the truth or not. If they *are* being truthful, then the ruling was absolutely correct.
As shown in the provided video of what was viewed during the replay process, a side-by-side view of the play and the game clock, using a direct shot of the game clock in the stadium, was used to determined the final ruling.

I've seen a few comments and memes around. Maybe not this thread, and maybe "cheat" is too harsh. More like "Oh, isn't THAT convenient".Honeyman wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 2:28 pmI never said Michigan cheated to win this game. I don't know who, if anybody, said that in this thread. My issue is that they didn't win the game, and moreso, it was stolen from a deserving WMU team. The Big Ten is at fault.MegaHertz wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 2:15 pm So, let me ask the green folks in the thread...how would you be feeling about this had all the Stallions and Moore business not been happening over the last few years? Would it be as big of a deal as it is now?
Frankly, if Michigan was gonna "cheat" to win a title, "cheating" to beat WMU seems like small potatoes to me, but that's just me. I have a feeling everytime something goes down, it's gonna be "cheating", even if it is just a lucky break. The program is fucking terrible right now, why do this with one second left in a game against a MAC opponent? What were the odds this situation would have come up? And what if this one second made no difference? It was funny when it was App State. You still chuckle over trouble with the snap. I'll give you the shit with Harbaugh and Stallions. But this is the hill you wanna die on? They would have been better off trying some shit against Oklahoma, who is probably gonna eat Michigan's lunch.
You saw the clock hit zero before it touched a player. Game over. Had you ever heard of another clock being used in Chicago before this?
Times like this, I wonder if it wasn't Michigan, would people feel differently. Or if it happened TO Michigan BY OSU. I wonder how everyone would think if that was the case.
It should have never been that close in the first place.
First I had to hear about the natty with a * next to it, now I'm gonna have to hear how WMU won that game. When it comes to Michigan, there's no word too harsh, apparently.

Re: College football 2026
We're apparently never going to get an answer from NBC as to why their gameplay camera and clock camera didn't have the same sync as the Big 10's game camera and clock camera.
Until that question gets answered, this is always going to look fishy. Because SOMEBODY's cameras were out of sync. That's a proven fact. And all NBC says is "oh, we're not the official time keepers." Ummm....yeah, that's not what people are wondering about.

Re: College football 2026
There is a really simple solution going forward (in addition to adding tenths of a second to the display inside of a minute):
Instead of the pretty network generated clock that matches the graphics package, just broadcast the exact camera feed that is permanently pointed at the scoreboard that the replay system uses. And if you're that worried about the graphics, just do it inside of 30 seconds left in the half.
I know, I know, that's too easy.

Re: College football 2026
But that is EXACTLY where the problem was last night: NBC's feed of the camera pointed at the actual scoreboard clock, relative to the camera angle of the play that they showed on-air, showed 0:00 when the ball was a good 2 feet above the defender's hands in the air. This was the replay they showed on-air a few minutes after the play when Terry McAulay was giving his explanation. Those 2 cameras (the one pointed at the scoreboard and the one following the action) were not synced RELATIVE TO EACH OTHER the same way that the Big 10's view of that same exact camera clock was synced with that end zone view of the play that they supposedly relied upon. This had nothing to do with NBC's graphic overlay clock (which I would agree is not the official clock).Robert Faygo wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 7:53 pm There is a really simple solution going forward (in addition to adding tenths of a second to the display inside of a minute):

The one missing link here that could have answered which camera was out of sync was the Big 10's feed of that mid-field view towards the end zone that we saw on TV. They did look at that (see the first 2 seconds of the footage they released), but never with the clock camera feed laid out next to it. So to me, the Big 10's evidence does not answer the sync problem, and NBC ain't talkin' about it.
EDIT - Anyways, I'm starting to feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, so I'll shut up now until if and when new evidence or new talking points come to light.

I'm talking about having the scoreboard clock on live coverage, not during replays.bmw wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 8:11 pmBut that is EXACTLY where the problem was last night: NBC's feed of the camera pointed at the actual scoreboard clock, relative to the camera angle of the play that they showed on-air, showed 0:00 when the ball was a good 2 feet above the defender's hands in the air. When NBC did their replay package, they did NOT have the stadium scoreboard on-screen during the live play, I would bet Zuckerberg's bank account they synced the camera shot of the scoreboard with their graphics and not the other way around. That's why they matched on TV and why TV viewers saw something different than the B1G did.
Edit: The B1G's system is reportedly "permanent". They always have the view of the scoreboard clock and the play in sync and available for the replay official to see immediately. TV broadcasts work differently. They have to do that work in the truck and is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why there is a difference. What NBC probably did was take bad data (an unofficial clock) then added on something that looked official on top of it (the overlaid scoreboard clock on the replay). Unfortunately when you have bad data as your start point, all the data that follows is also bad. You've lived this as a computer guy Beemer.
Edit 2: I watch way too much sports on TV. Even so, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has seen the TV graphics fail during games while what's happening officially is working just fine.

The shear volume of meme's tell me that UofM has lost the respect of just about everyone except Matt. That wouldn't have happened if there weren't many other incidents in the University's past. If this happened to an honest school, there would have been a "bad call" declaration, and no one would be discussing it today.

How is it Michigan's fault that the clocks were fucked up? Again, I criticize them when they fuck up. I was all over them for the Bo coverup.

Totally agree, and if this was another game with teams with solid credible reputations, this all would have ended quickly. When this happens to an already ethically challenged institution, cancel culture kicks in hard.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2026 7:54 am How is it Michigan's fault that the clocks were fucked up?
