August 3, 2026 Acquired RF Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for C Jacob Cozart. Designated 2B Juan Brito for assignment. Acquired LHP Foster Griffin from Washington in exchange for LHPs Will Dion, Josh Hartle OF Nick Mitchell and RHP Kendeglys Virguez. Acquired DH Nathaniel Lowe and cash from Cincinnati in exchange for RHP Alejandro Rivera and 2B Juan Brito. Transferred RHP Shawn Armstrong from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL. He’s 28 and very injury prone with limited time in the majors. I don’t understand why they are so high on him.

He has quite the champion in The Athletic's Keith Law, who, updating in May his preseason rankings, moved him up from the 55th to 19th top prospect in baseball.

Ryan has to be the oldest prospect I’ve ever put on any of these lists — he’ll be 28 in August, as he’s coming back from 2024 Tommy John surgery, and before that, he’d only become a full-time pitcher in 2022, after the Dodgers snatched him from San Diego for Matt Beaty. He’s made four rehab starts in Triple A this year, sitting 97-98 again with a plus fastball, plus slider, three other pitches that are all at least average, and excellent control. He should be pitching in someone’s rotation by the start of July, and I don’t mean Oklahoma City’s.

There’s a reason why the Rockies are the worst team in the NL and battling the Angels for worst in the majors.

Talk about doing a 180, from outhouse to penthouse, whatever. Being no-hit for six innings, then exploding for four runs to take a two-run lead, then surrendering that lead, then recapturing the lead to finish it out. Whew!

Whatever happens the rest of the way, this young Tigers team promises some entertaining baseball. Hell, the playoff talk simply won't go away!

Whatever happens the rest of the way, this young Tigers team promises some entertaining baseball.

I got a month-long subscription to Detroit SportsNet for September to check out all these young players. So far, there have been enough bright moments to give me some hope for the future.

Of course, we were saying the same thing two years ago with the late season debut of several rookies like Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney. But the number of players and overall talent level are an improvement on 2024.

Blue Jays are a game back of the third wild card, and they decide to do a bullpen game. Predictably it’s failed, mostly ex Tiger Michael Lorenzen (who has been horrible for a while now).

These are the types of games the Tigers needs to win, and so far they are.
