But the bottom line is that anyone watching on TV was totally biased and influenced by NBC's coverage because they saw that first. There is really no way to undo that influence.

The replay officials didn't see that coverage. They just used the tools they were given and made the call, which was correct based solely on the only data they had in front of them - and the only thing they could use. Every single one of us makes the exact same decision the replay officials did based on the info they had using the system they had to use.
You make a persuasive case.

My only counter to that argument is that the refs here had to rely solely on synced cameras to make a hundredths of a second determination. We're not even talking tenths of a second here, but hundredths. Just in my opinion, that's not "definitive" evidence required to overturn a call on the field. Not to mention, that particular camera view from behind the end zone even that the Big 10 released wasn't definitive as to the precise moment in time that the ball actually made contact with the defender's hand. And of course we have the limitation of camera frame rates. I think those cameras record at 60 FPS, and we're talking literally 1 single camera frame from the time the ball "appears" to touch the defender's hand and the very next frame when the synced clock shows zero. Again, I don't know just how precise that technology is in syncing cameras together, but here we could be literally talking fractions of a camera frame, or 0.01 to 0.02 seconds. Assuming NBC is ultimately who fucked this up, clearly the technology is not precise enough for them to get it right. And they're a major broadcast network.

I already don't like the way challenges of strike/ball calls are fundamentally changing the way pitchers pitch in some situations. At a point, modern technology is ruining sports. Again, just my personal opinion. Because in baseball, if you're going to use computer technology to call balls and strikes in SOME situations, why not ALL situations?

I'm not screaming "conspiracy" here. I don't think this was a rig-job. I think rather it was just a pro-Michigan bias under the circumstances at the time, and the replay review crew didn't give the evidence it had in-hand nearly as thorough of a review as it should have given the importance of the call and the literal 1-camera frame and few hundredths of a second we're talking here. Assuming that those 37 seconds accurately reflect the entirety of the review process, I think they rushed it big time. That's not to say they got it wrong in reality, but I think their conclusion of "definitive" evidence to overturn the call on the field was not supported by what they actually reviewed.

So you're gonna rely on the graphics clock overlay to make that determination?

Regardless, so what? You can't add 1 second to a subsequent play as a make-up call for the clock being effed up the play before.

It further substantiates that there was time left.

All of this talk about the correct timing in the Michigan game, yet NO ONE has brought up the assault committed by a State lineman on the two point conversion against Toledo: https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/intim ... d4z2OhLbWi

I'll be honest. That was fucking hilarious. I wonder what brought it on. That was "voluminous".

It was a very humid evening from what I heard. Bunch of guys cramping and others blowing their cookies...on the sidelines.

According to the press conference, the replay booth in Chicago uses their own clock, not the official one from the stadium. How in the hell is that a thing? Seems like the official clock should be the one on the scoreboard, so the people playing and coaching the game can all see the same thing.

Apparently they’re actually keeping a secret clock that no one can see including the teams and players and this clock took precedent over the actual game clock in the stadium.

I don't get how when the margin is that razor thin and within the margin for error of the technology itself why the correct ruling ins't simply letting the call on the field stand?

I'm still waiting for the release of a wide-angle shot from anyone there at the game or even NBC itself showing the stadium clock and the ball in the same camera shot.

I can all but guarantee that NBC's camera people and engineers are internally investigating this as we speak.

It wouldn't make a difference. The call comes from the clock in Chicago
