Somebody in the Minshew/Mac Jones mold who can win you a few games if you need them. It’s not Josh Dobbs. Altmeyer would be a good QB3 (essentially practice squad in the current NFL) who has potential to be the backup or fill in starter.

C'mon. If Goff goes down, the Lions are dead. That's essentially true for any NFL team.

Dobbs is a decent NFL backup. And he's smart. I'd honestly rather have him than head case Bridgewater who doesnt know what the fuck he wants to do.

I’d take him over Bridgewater because he isn’t a headcase, but I wouldn’t say Dobbs is a decent backup. He doesn’t win games.

Mac Jones kept the 49ers afloat last year. Don’t forget Nick Foles in the not too distant past winning a Super Bowl. Too many teams skimp on a good backup QB.

Good grief! Our new center Cade Mays will be out up to ten weeks with a wrist injury suffered in practice. What is it with this O-line!?! The unending shuffling continues.

So Terrion Arnold has landed in Seattle. Bets are being taken on if he ever does time.

Ahmed Hassanein looked really good last night at DE. Ennis Rakestraw is injured again...surprise, surprise. Jacob Saylors was impressive at RB. O-line looked decent. There were some really good plays by the DBs. Penalties up the wazoo!

I had to mute the TV audio and put on radio's Miller & Lomas, even with the slight delay. At least I'm hearing a play-by-play description and not an endless panegyric of yuck-yuck and feel-good. I don't think Benetti knew half the players!

Our jury-rigged O-line looks decent in the run game, lousy in pass protection. And the penalties in the second half.... :rolleyes

(Edit)
Forget what I said about the O-line looking decent in the run game. :rolleyes It looks like they've taken an early exit to the locker room.

Veteran QB Dobbs looked mostly excellent today despite a pick. Rookie Altmeyer still needs work; he was sacked four times.

Our D-line made some good plays and put some decent pressure on the QB. Rookie DE Derrick Moore looked ready for primetime!
DBs also looked decent.

Overall, a LOT of sloppy play! :? EIGHTEEN total Lions penalties, FIFTEEN in the second half!

If Miller and Brown are better, Benetti must be the worst football announcer in decades this side of Gus Johnson. They’re a clown show.

We better pray Goff never gets hurt. Dobbs and Altmeyer are absolute trash.

I think Benetti did great. He’s a better college play by play announcer than he is a Tiger play by play. It’s preseason, none of it really matters besides evaluating backups anyways.
They/them, non-binary and proud.

That's what was missing from Benetti yesterday! I kept waiting to hear "who made that great open field tackle" or "who missed that block". Us passionate fans need to know this stuff! I kept squinting to see if I could read the names on the backs of the uniforms!
Instead he and Lang, and even Spielman for a spell, were yacking about some shit totally irrelevant to the play on the field.

Gotta like the way the Lions are moving the ball on offense. If Saylors doesn't make the team as a backup RB it'll be a crime. Same with WR Tay Martin.
Another new center in there, converted G/T Mason Miller.
Rookie DT Gill-Howard is a lock to make the team! I'll go out on a limb and say CB and former second-rounder Ennis Rakestraw will be cut tomorrow.

(Edit)
Wow, Rakestraw just made an outstanding diving pick on an out route! :o
And where did this WR Lucky Jackson come from? He's making plays left and right!
O-line of guys competing for jobs is looking mostly solid.

(Edit)
WTF! Bates has missed TWO extra points! Both wide right.

I agree. If I was a betting man (which I'm not), I'd say he has the inside track on the QB2 job.

What really impressed me was the jury-rigged O-line and the lack of penalties and negative-yardage plays, a far cry from last game.

Agree. I think Dobbs has got QB2 locked.
