UofM is now only capable of attracting a tier two private University Provost to lead the tier one institution. Way to go...
The University of Michigan is expected to name Vanderbilt University Provost C. Cybele Raver as its next president Tuesday morning, according to multiple sources familiar with the decision.
An announcement is expected at 10 a.m. on Aug. 18. Raver will be formally approved by the Board of Regents on Sept. 1 at a special meeting. Raver will begin her term on Dec. 1.
It is a surprising hire. I was expecting someone with a more impressive resume. I cannot help but wonder if an internal promotion would've been more sensible.
Recall that the original hire decided to rescind acceptance of the job due to a brain cancer diagnosis.

How long will this one last?

A lot of top level coaching talent comes from small schools and works out so why not the president?
The misogynist that started this thread is just talking shit. Clearly, Raver is a qualified choice:
University of Michigan Board of Regents has announced Dr. C. Cybele Raver as its top choice to become the university’s 17th president. The Board will hold a special meeting on Sept. 1, at 11am, to take a formal vote. Pending approval, Raver’s appointment will take effect Dec. 1.
Dr. Raver is currently the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Vanderbilt University and a nationally recognized leader in higher education, developmental social science, and university strategy. Since her appointment in 2021, she has advanced transformational initiatives across Vanderbilt’s academic enterprise—launching the College of Connected Computing, recruiting eight new deans, strengthening research infrastructure, and spearheading Discovery Vanderbilt to catalyze world-changing innovation.
Under her leadership, the university has expanded its academic footprint to New York City, San Francisco, Chattanooga, Tenn., and West Palm Beach, Fla., approved a new interdisciplinary science building, and surpassed $1 billion in annual research expenditures.
A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Raver is the Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Psychology and Human Development at Peabody College. Her research on children’s development, education policy, and poverty has garnered more than $24 million in funding from the NIH, NSF, MacArthur Foundation, Spencer Foundation, and others.
Prior to joining Vanderbilt, she served as deputy provost at NYU and held faculty roles at the University of Chicago and Cornell University. She earned her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from Yale University.

She beat out Mike Duggan for the job, amongst others.
All I see is low level or second fiddle jobs at other schools and middling to small amounts of money tossed around for grants with some modest expansions of a mid level school. It’s on the level of the basketball coach they just got last year. Nothing spectacular on the resume but it’ll do. Job A-1 is schmoozing so if she can do that she’ll be fine.

What does the fact she's a chick have to do with it? The point I am making is that she hasn't led a tier one institution with a snake pit board of regents.

Neither had Jim Duderstadt, Lee Bollinger, or Mark Schlissel. Mary Sue Coleman had been at Iowa for 6 or 7 years, and Santa Ono had stints at Cincinnati and British Columbia. While Duderstadt and Schlissel both eventually lost the confidence of the Regents, both served 8 years and had significant accomplishments. Bollinger served five years and then did two decades at Columbia.
Bollinger was very good. Schlissel was right up there until we learned of his woefully inadequate handling of Martin Philbert's misconduct.
Ono seemed more interested in his own public image than the actual job of running the university. He also hid behind lawyers and surrogates instead of showing effective leadership in high pressure situations (e.g. the graduate instructor strike).
