WXMI 17-2 is now "The Spot Grand Rapids 17" ; Antenna TV to 8-2

Unread post by statmanmi »

WXMI TV 17-2 now branding as "The Spot Grand Rapids 17".

I hadn't realized it until today, but apparently transitioned sometime last week.

It's linked on the Scripps website for all their The Spot TV channels/subchannels: https://www.thespottv.com/grand-rapids-17 .

This subchannel had been Antenna TV. That's now available from WOOD TV 8-2, replacing Rewind TV. I haven't yet come across a new location for Rewind TV.

I'm at work/lunch break right now, and won't have a chance to check the resolution for being 480i/720p until I'm at home.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

Rewind TV was loved by my parents. Comcast carried it. I hope it's not gone for good.

Now we know where the Detroit Pistons will land locally. It will be 17-2.

Hopefully Directv will make a deal by football season with Scripps and part of deal will get 17-2

No wonder they were airing "The Jeffersons" instead of "Newsradio" last night during the 9pm hour...

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Antenna TV owned by NexStar? Probably made sense financially to no longer lease transmitter space from Scripps owned 17. Antenna TV was originally on 17 only because at the time of Antenna's launch, both were owned by Tribune. When NexStar bought Tribune, it would up with Antenna TV but not Fox 17 due to already owning WOOD and WOTV in this market.

The curve ball on this hypothesis is NexStar also owns Rewind. Makes me wonder if would they bump Rewind to subchannel of 15 or 41 and dump one of the subchannels that is not owned by NexStar?

8.3 is DeFy (owned by A&E)
15.2 is The Nest (owned by Sinclair), 15.3 is Comet (owned by Sinclair)
41.2 is The CW (owned by NexStar), 41.3 is Charge! (Sinclair owned), 41.4 is Cozi (owned by NBC)

As far as I know, nothing really replaced CW when it was on 3.2 other than an assortment of syndicated programming so in theory if Sinclair moved one of these three to 3.2, Rewind could then take its place.

NewsRadio is still on Antenna TV Sunday nights from 1AM to 3. I kinda wonder why Nexstar still keeps Rewind TV on the air. I have never seen a diginet owned by such a major broadcast company fail so terribly at finding affiliates. They're missing in a lot of major markets like Detroit, Atlanta, Seattle, and Miami. They're also not in Tampa, Denver or Philly, and Nexstar owns stations there!

I knew that 17.2 was going to air the Pistons since Scripps signed for TV20. The programs they air just seem what they could throw at a dart board in my opinion, has to do with not a lot in snydication market with WXSP, ARC-WMI, The CW etc. Outside of the Pistons will not watch The Spot GR 17 all that much.

I was surprised that Nexstar didn't take Antenna TV in the early 2020s what Scripps did with diginets they owned in 2021 where Nexstar had to replace a lot of the subchannels.

How long will it take the Xfinity/Comcast channel guide to catch up with this change?

The guide shows the correct programming for these channels even though it has yet to switch up the logos.

Hi All,

WXMI posted on their website this afternoon an article confirming that indeed The Spot West Michigan 17-2 will have the local broadcasts of the Pistons games:

https://www.fox17online.com/sports/nba/ ... and-rapids

No specifics on paid providers that have or will add this channel stream. Just "participating cable and satellite providers." Over-the-air reception is mentioned.

Hey Honolulublue4life,
WXMI 17 has two "repeater" broadcast transmitters just of M-120 / Holton Rd. You note your location as being Muskegon County, so one or both should be receivable with an indoor unamplified antenna. Even a "mud flap" one. Although, using a simple, old-fashioned rabbit ears with loop type likely would add the VHF broadcasts from WZZM 13 and WGVU 35 (on RF channel 11) better than a "mud flap" or bowtie-style aerial.

One tower is just east of M-120 / Holton Rd. where it curves between US-31 and Twin Lake. The second tower is just south of Hesperia.

Enjoy! ~~ Statmanmi

Looks like The Spot GR17 will air most of what the main channel airs at different times starting on Mon and a few shows that will not air on the main channel like The Jason Show at 4PM to 5PM, Battle Ground Midterms at 10PM to 10:30PM until Nov, 3RD or 4TH, FOX17 News at 9PM prerecored Scrippscast when there isn't any Pistons games 7 days a week.

Which isn't up on the website, I got that info from TV Titan.
