Bret's been there a long time!

Justin has been there quite a while, too. Two tours of duty, in fact. Seems like a nice guy, but it's hard to respect the intellect of a guy who often regurgitates right wing conspiracy bull crap he sees online.

Half of 105.7's morning show appears to be gone:

Wow... wondered why Bakita wasn't on the air this morning.. The week after he was on vacation. He was such a loyal soldier through the years....

LT in Muskegon. I think that leaves an empty house.

That sucks. LT was doing mornings for Big 101.3 as well, I believe.

I'm old enough to remember when he handled local breaks during the Stern show on WKLQ for a spell in the late 90s.

Once in a blue moon in recent years, I'd hear him do a weekend shift (voice tracked remotely, of course) on 106.7 WLLZ here in Detroit.

Coincidentally, longtime WLAV'er Rob Brandt took over weekday afternoons at WLLZ after Doug Podell retired.

Maybe Justin can visit Terri DeBoer's grandkids with his free time.

Barclay isn't really a surprise as he was a useful idiot during the election season but has been progressively more unhinged as this presidential term has gone on. I don't know a single person in that building who liked him.

Bakita is a head scratcher as he has a long list of clients that love him and his high school sports programming. I know he technically retired from PBP, but he could do it again if he wanted to.

If I'm TSM I bring him, and his dollars, to 98.7 and have him localize the station a bit. He may be more open to covering High School sports without the daily grind of a morning show to worry about. He was basically a sales guy with an on-air role, so his client list would likely cover his salary easily.

Bret may have gotten the word that the iheart group would be discontinuing high school sports on 96.1, so he decided to hang up his PBP microphone.

I'm deeply saddened.

There is no one like Bakita.

LT? He trained me at WLAV and I remember I would come in early for my shift just to hear his stories. He is the best. Really worked hard to serve his audience along the Lakeshore and build relationships with clients, non profits and the audience in a market that gets overlooked. Hearing him in GR was an added bonus on 101.3.

It's not lost on me how lucky I am to still be doing what I am doing.

In some ways it feels like such a confusing time. In other ways you know your jock friends are putting out the best product they can because like you, they care about their audience.

Despite that here we are. I am just really sad. Felt like a gut punch to an industry I love and care about so much . It's Global Beatles day. We should all put on some vinyl. This day is done.

Eric Zane is out as afternoon host at Big 101.3.

Jeffrey T. Mason, who I was unaware did work for iHM, now handles afternoons.

"Eric Zane is out as afternoon host at Big 101.3. Jeffrey T. Mason, who I was unaware did work for iHM, now handles afternoons."

Jeffery is ALL OVER I Heart...not only on their national 70s and 80s streaming channels, but he is easily on 10+ I Heart stations...he found a way to make himself valuable in that setting...VTing from home in Chicago and working heap...

2 other names from GR/Michigan I recognized from the bloodbath...Wasnt Manuel at SNX at somepoint?

"Denver" Ryan Schuiling departs as morning host at Talk 630 KHOW after two plus years in the timeslot. Prior to moving to mornings, Schuiling served as producer of the station’s afternoon show and hosted Sports shows in Lansing and Grand Rapids MI.

"Quad Cities IA/IL" Mark Manuel departs as Program Director/afternoon host at Classic Hits “Big 106.5” KCQQ and Classic Rock “100.7 The Fox” KKRQ Cedar Rapids. He previously served as APD of KCQQ and webmaster for the iHeartMedia Quad Cities cluster before rising to PD in June 2020. He has worked in the market since 1993 and has also worked in Des Moines, Southern Maryland and Madison during his career. He shared, “I just want to thank all of YOU for listening thru the years, whether it was on the old 103.7 KUUL-FM, Mix 96, All Hit 98-9, KUUL-FM (again), WOC-AM, Q106.5, and now BIG 106.5…as well as my Iowa City friends with 100.7 The Fox. I have learned more in the past 6 years as a multi-market program director than I did in the previous 35 years of my career. I’m sure I’ll turn up (like a bad penny) on your radio dial somewhere…or, with all this weight I’ve lost, maybe I’ll give TV a shot!”

I remember Ryan Schuiling.

He used to do mornings at the old 107.3 WBBL.

More reasons there needs to be strict ownership limits and the busting of monopolies. No heart radio.
