The Who "Eminence Front" from late 1982 used to have Pete Townshend either on the left or right speaker. The MCA reissue with bonus tracks doesn't have it because Pete is singing on both speakers!!! I think the original Warner Bros. CD (no bonus songs) of "It's Hard" might have that!!

Lindsay Buckingham "Out Of The Cradle" (1992) is his best of all the solo stuff!!!

Also listening to Iron Maiden "Killers" (from 1981) on CD which has the songs "Wrathchild", the title track & "Drifter"!!! All of the 3 songs were played on former WIDL "Ideal Radio" in Caro (104.9) in late 1981 & early & mid 1982!!

Honestly? Fine.

Reversed music. No, I'm no satan worshipper or anything, but it helps keep my mind sharp. Looking for pattern recognition. Hearing what other melodies might sound good. It's a weird hobby to have for sure but sometimes it's fun to just listen to music roll in reverse and see what's there.

I've been using my Amazon Music subscription to do a couple of things.

Enjoy 50h anniversary listenings of albums from my high school years. Recent listens have included The Royal Scam (Steely Dan); Turnstiles (Billy Joel); Fly Like an Eagle (Steve Miller Band); From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee (Elvis Presley); Agents of Fortune (Blue Oyster Cult); ChangesOneBowie (David Bowie); Warren Zevon (Warren Zevon); Rocks (Aerosmith); Faithful (Todd Rundgren) and Rose of Cimarron (Poco). All good to great, and all released in May 1976.

Listen to new classical music recordings that are reviewed in the BBC Music magazine. So far, I've listened to J.S. Bach: Johannes-Passion, BWV 245 and Mahler: Symphony No. 7.

In an inspired performance this can be a most delightful listen! In a less inspired or less knowing performance it can be a thorny incomprehensible mess, or even just an uninspiring bore. I've heard several recordings from various sources, but my two favorites are from American orchestras -- the Chicago Symphony conducted by James Levine from the '70s and the New York Philharmonic with Leonard Bernstein who got the whole Mahler ball rolling in America in the '60s. I'd be curious to know the performance you listened to and what you thought of it.

I've heard several recordings from various sources, but my two favorites are from American orchestras -- the Chicago Symphony conducted by James Levine from the '70s and the New York Philharmonic with Leonard Bernstein who got the whole Mahler ball rolling in America in the '60s. I'd be curious to know the performance you listened to and what you thought of it.

It was a new release by Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the direction of Paavo Järvi (a familiar last name around here). It had that soaring, epic melodic grandeur that I look for in Mahler. It got a five-star rating from the magazine and lived up to it.

You mention Bernstein and Mahler. About 25 years ago, I stopped in the old Harmony House classical music store on Woodward and asked for a Bernstein recording of a Mahler symphony. I was helped by Jack Goggin, who was a classical music host on both WQRS and WRCJ (and who died three years ago). He proceeded to give me an in-depth description of the different recordings that Bernstein did of the Mahler symphony cycle. Amazing knowledge.

I swear I must've kept Harmony House in business for years; that exclusively classical store was a great concept. I usually shopped that store and the one at 9 Mile off I-75 in Hazel Park.

You probably know Bernstein recorded two Mahler cycles - the first with the NYPO for Columbia and another later in life with various orchestras for Deutsche Grammophon. Each have something to recommend them depending on the particular symphony. He also recorded a Mahler 9 with the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam that has a finale that stretches to infinity!
