Unlike if they went with say AP News which is pretty dead center… Townhall is Conservative. Maybe they can see if MSNOW would alternate stories?

Owned by Salem, who has O&O stations in Detroit.

It's also not a well known news organization.

You act like an absolute douchebag. So liberal news is ok. But conservative is bad. Chump. Neither is good.

I said the AP... You know... the one non commercial outlet EVERYBODY cribs off of?

You missed the sarcasm entirely... Townhall doing radio updates is idiotic even if they apparently do. So if they did that why not double down and have MS NOW do every other story? It's equally ridiculous. No right or left leaning outlet should be in the blurb business. So if we replaced Townhall with MS NOW in the above blurb I would have made a smartass comment about having say Breitbart or the Daily caller alternate stories with them. None of it is a good thing. Sorry to burst your bubble about what you think I meant.

In that case, apologies. Objectivity in news is imperative. Though, I believe those days are long gone.

That’s ok. I agree I think it probably is outside of the AP and Reuters. The Guardian doesn’t seem cowed by anybody but it’s in a trust so it has no ownership as such.

The knock I’d have against Townhall isn’t their conservative lean as much as that they aren’t that good.

Leading every newscast (that I heard) with “Breaking news…” when it usually wasn’t any such thing, and giving coverage to stories just because they fit their overall editorial direction doesn’t go beyond preaching to the choir.

Short radio newscasts should just give the news that’s current, and leave the spin to longer form programming or talk radio. I miss the multiple bigger networks radio programmers used to have to choose from, like the triumvirate of NBC, CBS and ABC, along with Mutual when they were around.

When the service was still known as "SRN News," I thought it was pretty good.

That’s apparently still running, according to their website. They give the option of listening to their newscasts, and the one I heard already was better than the Townhall ones I had heard before.

I worked for two different stations that took CBS. If I had been in charge, I would have have dropped it. Today, there is no reason to separate network and local news - except that's the way it's always been done. There is just news. Give the stories important to people in your coverage area regardless of where it comes from. On national stories, incorporate a local angle. But you can't do that when network news is distinct and separate. 'J' is better off with APRadio. They post sound bites and voicers on a closed website and you can download when you want and incorporate them into news segments. And if something is really "breaking news" and warrants live coverage, AP provides that as well.

The World News Round-up is a joke. It's just a three and a half minute newscasts with a lot of padding to let stations cut away any time they want. It's no longer a 15 minute newscast. And it doesn't feature correspondents' reports as it used to.

IMHO Group W stations did better without CBS. 'J' will, too.

I appreciate the info.

USA Radio News was another service I felt was decent (years ago), but I see they ceased operation in 2024.

My understanding about Salem's newscasts is that "Townhall News" airs on commercial affiliates and "SRN News" is offered to non-commercial/religious broadcasters and as 1 minute bottom of hour features for commercial stations. As for CBS News Radio, I think one of their best offerings was the "World News Roundup" which ran twice a day, weekdays. WWJ aired segments of it, but the entire feature was 10 minutes long, as opposed to the usual 4 minutes.
