New imaging voice for WOOD TV
New imaging voice for WOOD TV
I’m definitely not a fan of the new imaging voice over at 120 College, SE. There’s not enough bass in his voice and he doesn’t sound serious in the news promos.
Southpaws airs Saturday nights at 11:00 on Global Community Radio Channel 1; weekly on Pacifica Radio affiliates KCEI-FM 90.1, Taos, NM; KZGM-FM 88.1, Cabool, MO; KEPJ-LP in San Antonio, TX. Available on Spreaker, Apple Podcasts, & Pandora.
Re: New imaging voice for WOOD TV
WZZM had a VERY similar voice for a short time.

Does this impact ratings?
Re: New imaging voice for WOOD TV
This is a Nexstar-wide thing. We're all being forced to go with the same voiceover company, which is a lot cheaper than what we were previously using. But the choices are ... underwhelming.

Re: New imaging voice for WOOD TV
I honestly don't think ratings are even remotely accurate. It's all sort of ridiculous, as much weight they put on them.
However... on that note, 95.7 recently (past two months maybe?) rolled out an endless supply of promos, IDs, TOH IDs even ALL with the SAME cringeworthy woman doing all the voice work. I mean, I don't think I have ever been annoyed to this point with anyone's voice or promos on any station like I have with 95.7. It's practically every other song, every promo, every ID, you cannot escape this woman's voice and her awkward intonation and the audio quality is even off... it just doesn't fit!! It has drastically cut down how often I listen to the station. Every now and then, okay. But this is CONSTANT and makes my ears bleed. I'd say I listen to the station 20% of what I used to solely because of this one woman.
I doubt anyone else notices her, but if you do, let me know so I don't feel like I'm the only crazy out there.
With TV though, it has got to be few and far between as compared to a radio station where it's every 6 minutes or so. People probably don't care as much as there is so much other content.
Marine propagation studies, Korean propaganda and jammers (8 hrs. of audio), 500+ Great Lakes TOH IDs (6 hrs.), Chinese AM TOH IDs (53 hrs.), Chinese and Taiwanese propaganda and jammers, plus articles and maps at www.chriskadlec.com • Tuner: Grundig G8 & TEF6686.
Re: New imaging voice for WOOD TV
Doesn’t surprise me that major TV conglomerates like Nexstar Media Group (197 stations) who is still trying to buy Tegna (67), Sinclair (294) try to pinch penny’s by going the low bidder route by using 1 voice over agency for their TV news promos maybe having 2-3 humans for regions. But if they can get it done with software and multiple scripts to adjust they might just need 1 person.

Chances are, they are looking for someone to run it in an AI engine. My buddy has been making some pretty good music in minutes with Suno. I used to charge $3500 - $5000 for jingles that can be created in 5 minutes with AI. i know it's more difficult, but giving in to garbage really doesn't help anyone who's worked to be even moderately acceptable at broadcast arts. i'll keep swinging.TC Talks wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 9:34 pmChances are, they are looking for someone to run it in an AI engine. First off...Hi Andy!
Second, totally agree as a broadcast and voice professional. The General public, however, doesn't have the same appreciation for the craft, hence all the cheap as hell gigs on Fiver and Upwork.

You might want to talk to the operators of today's commercial broadcast stations. Acceptable broadcasters are now found on Podcasts.andymuskegon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 10:45 ami know it's more difficult, but giving in to garbage really doesn't help anyone who's worked to be even moderately acceptable at broadcast arts. i'll keep swinging.TC Talks wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 9:34 pmChances are, they are looking for someone to run it in an AI engine.
