Just got tickets to see Todd Rundgren

Saw him in 1979 at the old Center Stage venue in Canton, MI, with the Utopia lineup. It was similar in size to where you're going, which is a great way to experience Todd's personality. At the time, I remember telling my college friends that one of my goals in life had been fulfilled.

His YouTube interviews are great. He's had an amazing career that is always changing.

The only album released by The New Cars was a live album and it's surprisingly good.

I never got into much of Rundgren's music, but he did produce one of the best British pop albums of the '80s - Skylarking by XTC. Apparently he and XTC's Andy Partridge didn't get along very well during production. Whatever, it's a darn fine album!

Just picked up a vinyl copy of his 1976 album Faithful. Great fun, with the two different musical approaches on each side.

Couple reasons...a friend had seen him a few months earlier opening for Heart and said he was really an asshole. Playing a bunch of songs people weren't familiar with, and when the audience would yell out, "Play Hello it's Me", he would swear at them. Checked his set lists coming up to the concert and that seemed to be the norm. We also had just adopted a new dog a few days earlier and didn't want to leave her alone at night so soon.

Well, he's recorded several albums in collaboration with other artists as well as written songs for others. He must get along with someone! (Oh wait, you did say ALMOST anyone. )

That dovetails with things I have heard and read about him—how he's most interested in playing his most recent music at concerts. I also heard him talk about how he limits his classic songs to just small excerpts in medleys, to give people a quick hit of nostalgia for each song.

I’ve heard Chrissie Hynde is very similar in regards to her 80s hits.

I saw him at the Ritz back in 1995. It was the last major concert I went to. It was a good show but not a lot of hits,( Black Mariah, Hammer In My Heart, Black and White.) Maybe they weren’t “hits” but they were songs I recognized.

"Hammer In My Heart" by Utopia (1982) & "Bang the Drum All Day" (1983) are great songs!! I also got down with "Boogies (Hamburger Hotel)" (from 1976 "Faithful")!!
