Where is Johnny Kane? Detroit Tigers reveal 2025 broadcast team with new sideline reporter

Daniella Bruce has been hired as one of two sideline reporters for the Tigers' TV broadcasts on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit. The other sideline reporter will be hired in the near future, with Ilitch Sports + Entertainment posting the job opening Feb. 17 for anyone to apply. The two sideline reporters, including Bruce, will work for both the Tigers and Red Wings. Bruce, 31, has been a TV and radio broadcast reporter for the Tigers and Red Wings — both owned by Ilitch Holdings — for more than seven years. In 2025, she will be a full-time fixture on Tigers TV broadcasts for the first time. Therefore, Kane might not be part of Tigers' TV broadcasts in 2025. Kane — along with fellow reporters Trevor Thompson, Mickey York and Natalie Kerwin — can apply for the second sideline reporter role, but Ilitch Sports + Entertainment may select an external candidate from the applicant pool, meaning none of them are guaranteed the spot. Kane has covered Detroit sports on TV for more than 10 years.
It's unclear whether Kane plans to apply for the Tigers' second sideline reporter role, but he has played a vital role in Detroit Pistons' TV broadcasts as an employee of FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, including filling in as the play-by-play broadcaster when legendary broadcaster George Blaha is unavailable. Kane declined to comment about his future with the Tigers.

I think that he should stay with FanDuel for the Piston's position. Blaha's days as play-by-play announcer are near the end. He had heart bypass surgery a couple of years ago and he'll be 80 in a month.

The Tigers' broadcast team reminds me of the final game on each episode of Wheel of Fortune.

The Tigers' version of RSTLNE is Benetti and Dickerson, with most everyone else just shuffled around, like the letters that the WOF players guess.

I cannot stand Kane's voice on play by play. Pistons can and should do much better.

Daniella Bruce did some sideline reporting last year on Fanduel Sports when it was Bally Sports. I hope that Natalie Kerwin will also do sideline reporting and less Johnny Kane would be good. Is this John Keating last year doing Tigers pregame & postgame shows as he is retiring.

Bruce was there at Spring Training with a FanDuel mic so this makes sense.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I think Kane is a great sideline reporter. His play by play or when he fills in anchoring isn't the best.
Mickey York and Trevor Thompson are so seasoned that will be a shame to have them both be booted. Natalie is ok but so green. You can tell she puts her tv voice on when talking. I am sure she is the cheapest out of all of them. But she has been doing a lot with Pistons so maybe they will keep her on them. She isn't as good as Bruce so strong move with that. When they all get their own on air folks though, it will be all the same and then to pay for the stream-- not cool.

I, too, am a fan of Mickey York's work.

George Blaha is eternal. They can just load all of his catch-phrases into an AI bot and it'll be like he never left. 🙃

Per Tony Paul of the Detroit News Twitter: "Johnny Kane is set to host a new sports-talk show on WJR 760-AM, Wednesdays from 8-9 p.m. It's called "SportsCaster's Open Mic," and will feature up-and-coming sports journalists on the show each week. Inaugural show is tomorrow night."

Weird move.

Further change: Kirk Gibson won't be in the booth this year due to his health issues. Matt Shepard tweeted angrily about it not being Gibby's choice.

I have tremendous respect for Gibson's contributions to the game of baseball, but his health challenges have impeded his on-air performance. I am happy for the viewers that he will not be part of the broadcast team this year.

Not that I follow every broadcast and pre and post game that closely, but I feel like Mickey York has been MIA on BSD broadcasts lately.

Saw him on a pre taped goodbye to John Keating during last night’s Red Wings game.

Other than that, nothing. Personally I’d like to see him doing the Tigers pre and post game shows. Natalie Kerwin is on as I type this and is so so
