I never thought that Gretzky's all-time goal scoring record would be broken, class act of #8 not scoring into an empty net for his record breaking goal...
The sports record that will never be broken is Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak....

...in addition to Cy Young's records of 749 complete games and innings pitched (7,356) -- changing rules and practices conspire against it. I can at least "conceive" of DiMaggio's record being broken, just as Lou Gehrig's record of consecutive games played. Hell, Pete Rose came up just twelve games short of DiMaggio.
