Re: Wisconsin Supreme Court
I agree with everything you said. The most important aspect is being term-limited. There is no reason a judge should have a lifetime appointment, especially with the recent questionable "incidents" (*cough* Thomas *cough*) that have been brought to light. Since no one is going to begin an impeachment, especially in this climate we are currently in!Bull Shannon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:21 pmI think that would potentially make SCOTUS *more* political instead of the apolitical body it's supposed to be.teetoppz28 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 9:39 am I really wish SCOTUS had term limits and national elections...
Though I do have to laugh at the tRumpanzees that get angry when one of the tRump judges rules against him!![]()
But rather than lifetime appointments, appointments should be for a set term length, and all terms staggered by a few years. Existing federal judges can apply for a SCOTUS seat, Senate Judiciary considers applications and schedules interview hearings. The committee then votes on who to advance to a full confirmation hearing and vote. Confirmed justices serve their term on SCOTUS, and when their term concludes they can return to a regular federal court assignment. The Chief Justice, instead of a distinct position, is simply the most senior justice on the court at any given time.

As for where I live, we are perhaps the bluest rural county in the state. I've certainly helped in the effort to make it that way...

Re: Wisconsin Supreme Court
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—After being handed a bruising defeat in the state’s Supreme Court election on Tuesday, Elon Musk angrily demanded that Wisconsin pay him back “in full” for the money he poured into the contest.
“I want $20 million wired into my account by end of business Wednesday,” the furious South African declared. “And I want it all in cash, none of that worthless crypto shit.”
“Until I am refunded, every voter I bribed is my employee,” he continued. “As such, I forbid you to work remotely and demand that you report to Tesla headquarters at once.”
In a final demand, Musk said he expected to be reimbursed $16.95 for the cost of his cheesehead.

Re: Wisconsin Supreme Court
But the benefit to lifetime appointment is the concept of stripping out any political pressure. We've seen Trump appointees decide cases against him. Without that lifetime appointment, you can be certain he would be calling them to step down. Of course, the downside would be some of the things Thomas and Alito have been up to.teetoppz28 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 1:16 pmI agree with everything you said. Re: Wisconsin Supreme Court
Marquette's average age of registered voters is 32 years old. Of course a college town will be blue. Leelanau County is next door and did in fact go blue. That actually lends to my comments that we are in a democratic rural area.
