She's ahead by 13 points with about 55% of the vote in. Not time for victory, but it looks somewhat likely.

The non-Trumpbot is ahead by 10 points with 98% of precincts reported. GOOD! :) 👍

Finally some good news.

I forget what I was listening to, but there was excitement because one of the Democratic candidates in Florida only lost by 15 points instead of the usual 35 points or something like that. Here we go again with the fucking "moral victory" shit again. There is no second winner.

When the district is overwhelmingly red and you overperformed by 20 that’s pretty crazy. BUT special elections are really wonky and don’t bring out a normal electorate.

Those districts are even more ruby red than Grand Traverse County.

Other than the county commission and a couple of districts at the state level… it’s pure red.

Since 1900, GT has gone blue 3 times: 1932, 1936, and 1964.

Conclusion: RUBY RED.

Yep, and the county has grown more than 30% in a decade and the new voters are Blue. Change happens here. How's Saginaw voting these days?

What's the point of all of this?

We aren't responsible for Bergman, he lost in GT County. We have a Democrat State House Rep who is progressive, and the county commission is Blue now. We have Republicans here, but we were home to Milliken who was a progressive Republican. I assure you that it's not a Trump county.

I think that would potentially make SCOTUS *more* political instead of the apolitical body it's supposed to be.

But rather than lifetime appointments, appointments should be for a set term length, and all terms staggered by a few years. Existing federal judges can apply for a SCOTUS seat, Senate Judiciary considers applications and schedules interview hearings. The committee then votes on who to advance to a full confirmation hearing and vote. Confirmed justices serve their term on SCOTUS, and when their term concludes they can return to a regular federal court assignment. The Chief Justice, instead of a distinct position, is simply the most senior justice on the court at any given time.
