Bye Bye Bongino

Unread post by radio_sparty »

Trump has named Don Bongino to be the deputy director of the FBI. Bongino had been trying to weasel out of his contract with Cumulus/Westwood One since the pandemic, threatening to quit over a vaccine mandate, despite he himself taking the jab. He's already been replaced on many of Cumulus Media's large market talk stations (Like WJR) but he remains on many of their smaller market talkers and some independently owned stations here in Michigan (like WTCM). Cumulus rolled him out as their "Rush Replacement" despite most Rush affiliates going with Clay and Buck from Premiere. What happens to the 12-3p day part on these stations? Can we please stop giving fringe podcasters talk shows moving foward?

Bongino had high numbers as a podcaster. It just didn’t turn to radio.

WLBY airs him currently, not sure what will take his place. Dennis Prager’s fillin and Dana Loesch air on WAAM. I’m drawing a blank on the other conservative hosts with shows at noon other than Clay and Buck, which I don’t see happening.

Compass Media has Markley and Van Camp in that time slot as well.

That is the absolute worst show on radio.
Dropping knowledge on forum MAGAts (where DID they all go??).

The show was better when it was just Markley and Van Camp. It was rolled out as a more lighthearted, pop-culture show that didn't take themselves too seriously. It was supposed to attract younger demo.

When Mark Levin wannabe Scott Robbins was added, it became a boomer rant fest... yelling, screaming, shouting... and basically just rehashing what they heard on Fox News or Tucker Carlson the night before.

Their only redeeming quality is the final hour on Fridays when they play music and have callers come in and guess the songs. The rest of the show is terrible and should be avoided by stations looking to fill that timeslot.

I've listened a few times and all they seem to do is play doctored audio clips of the "left wing lunatics" and laugh like high school boys. There's ZERO intellect on that show.

But I do agree, I've listened on Fridays and the Top 5 songs by theme is pretty decent.

Looks like Bongo's Replacement, Vince Coglianese, started his new show today.

How many existing Bongino affiliates keep their affiliation with Westwood One?

WTCM went with Clay and Buck according to their website.
