Channel 7 preempts ABC programming to air infomercial in primetime
Circle 7 decided to preempt Shark Tank (not a program I regularly watch) tonight so it could run an hour long locally produced infomercial instead.
WTF channel 7?!!
WTF channel 7?!!
Trump is too stupid to know what "reciprocal" means.

They've been running promo's for the "7 Home Pro's" special for a week. It looks like something the station worked on.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:14 pm Circle 7 decided to preempt Shark Tank (not a program I regularly watch) tonight so it could run an hour long locally produced infomercial instead.

You'd think they'd air this infomercial in the 7:00 hour leading into primetime. Very weird and this is a new Shark Tank episode too.

That thought crossed my mind the dozen or so times I saw the promos.radioandtventhusiast wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:29 pm You'd think they'd air this infomercial in the 7:00 hour leading into primetime. Very weird and this is a new Shark Tank episode too.

I thought Erin was lingering a little long for a typical 30 second spot.

I’m not privy to all aspects of affiliate agreements BUT generally I believe we are allowed a certain amount of pre-empt every year. It’s probably the same deal with Access Hollywood as well. I imagine we were trying to play a balancing act between those two deals.radioandtventhusiast wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:29 pm You'd think they'd air this infomercial in the 7:00 hour leading into primetime. Or we just did the math and went with the option that made the most money.
This is also pure speculation.

I hearken back to the old days in my youth of the 80's/90's (actually I was still old) when Ron Popeil flooded my TV at 2am with classic infomercials ....
Who can forget these classic, timeless products....
Ronco Food Dehydrator
Ronco Veg-O-Matic
Ronco Showtime Rotisserie & BBQ (Compact Model)
Ronco Showtime Six Star + Knives
Ron Popeil’s™ 5in1 Fryer™...
Who could forget the legendary "Pocket Fisherman"....???
So many more to mention but of course, as Ron would have his paid/compensated audience shout out....
"Set it and Forget it"!!

The spray paint hair in a can was my personal favorite.
Infomercials in the late 80s and 90s often had some entertainment value. Modern ones suck.

Ron Popeil was often paired with Twin Cities personality Nancy Nelson. You could tell he would get annoyed with her.
The Juiceman was always entertaining as well.

Don't forget K-Tel. Not just all the records, but the Sno-Bloc maker and the Fun Skis. The 70's were a great time.

Channel 7 does this every March. It used to be the "Ultimate Wedding Show" they changed it the past couple years to the "7 Home Pros." It always airs on Friday nights at 8:00, with frequent replays on both channel 7 as well as TV20. I think Erin hosted the Ultimate Wedding Show as well. As mentioned before, this was a locally sponsored program. Shark Tank fans had to either stay up until 2:00 am Saturday morning, or DVR that particular episode.

My favorite was the Magic Bullet. They were always set at some cheesy party. I actually bought one, but it broke after using it a few times.

As they say, follow the money. In all likelihood, channel 7 (owned by Scripps-Howard, not ABC/Disney) got more money for running the infomercial than carrying the network show. This kind of thing used to be a lot more common. Not on channel 7, which ABC once owned but channel 2, when it was a CBS affiliate, used to preempt routinely. At one time, they even didn't carry the CBS Evening News. Rule of the thumb, local pays better.
Just curious, did channel 7 move the ABC show over to one of the sub-channels or dump it completely? Or did another station pick it up?
