Re: Devin Scillian
Mort came across as uptight on-air at times based on footage I've viewed over the years.
Devin was a titan of Detroit television. He was arguably the very last one of those still on-air locally. Nearly everyone else on-air currently isn't in the same league as him.

Trump is too stupid to know what "reciprocal" means.
Re: Devin Scillian
All the hoopla over Devin’s retirement is deserved. He is a generational talent for local news and seems to be a good guy (I hope, anyway). We will miss him and his work, presentation and professionalism. I wish him the very best and he will be missed on the air.

I could not have said it better. I enjoyed his presentations, didn't sense any bias, and he was very good at carrying on an email exchange with a viewer on an interesting topic.deadend wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:17 am All the hoopla over Devin’s retirement is deserved. I hope he has a long and happy retirement.
The box that many broadcasters won’t look outside of was made in 1969 and hasn’t changed significantly since.

Devin wrote an opinion piece that appeared in yesterday's online version of the Freep, titled "I'm Mystified by the Blind Allegiance of Trump Supporters." I had a chance to read it on the Freep.com site early yesterday but it since has been moved behind the paywall and for now is only available to subscribers. His statements were sound, measured, eloquent. As I read it, I pictured him reading it as an on-camera commentary. Maybe he would have done something like this on "Flashpoint" if he'd stuck around longer.
Devin's type are rapidly disappearing, but I've always found him decent, trustworthy, calm. I respect his take on things and trust that his takes are nuanced and well-researched.

I totally agree. I was worried about commenting on that article on the forum, due to it's strong stance.MichMash wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 11:09 am Devin wrote an opinion piece that appeared in yesterday's online version of the Freep, titled "I'm Mystified by the Blind Allegiance of Trump Supporters." I met him once as an intern there… he’s a really nice guy. Definitely in the old school mold.rubberneck wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 3:56 pmI totally agree. Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

I think it is a maximum free articles thing they started recently. I noticed it last week after reading an article and then going back to the same link later I got a paywall. Today I went to this article by Devin which I had read previously and got a paywall the second time, but after closing my browser, clearing browser history, cookies, etc. and trying again the article was viewable without a paywall.MichMash wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 11:09 am Devin wrote an opinion piece that appeared in yesterday's online version of the Freep, titled "I'm Mystified by the Blind Allegiance of Trump Supporters." Dude’s just trying to stay relevant. Apparently misses the spotlight.MichMash wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 11:09 am Devin wrote an opinion piece that appeared in yesterday's online version of the Freep, titled "I'm Mystified by the Blind Allegiance of Trump Supporters." What a pathetic shame.

Devin walked away on his terms and not the stations. He picks and chooses what he wants to say or do. It's always better to leave a job with the people saying "Why did he go? rather than "it's about time!" Devin is a class act and always will be.

I'm listening to this week's Soul of Detroit podcast my ML Elrick, and Devin is the guest. What a nice guy. And anyone that was offended or didn't like his article should listen to it. He explains what he meant real well.
