Today, I learned that all health suffering is caused by each individual's laziness and poor eating habits. Cancer, auto injuries, auto-immune diseases, neurological diseases, injuries from violence, etc etc etc are all self-inflicted because these patients are stupid, lazy, fat fucks. No one ever suffered or got sick or died before Big Macs and Diet Coke were invented. Ever go up to a cancer patient or someone with MS and say "it's your own fault, you lazy fat fuck." And if you want to be pro-active about any preventable issues, that's going to be too expensive too because... stupid, lazy, fat fucks I guess. All health problems can be solved by a salad and a run.
I believe a healthy society is in everyone's best interest. Maybe our health condition isn't the same as the rest of the developed world because our health system sucks. Absolutely sucks, and is too inaccessible for too many people. People can scream about their taxes going toward stupid, lazy, fat fucks, but my taxes do too, and my taxes also go toward your health, and I'm ok with that, because we would all benefit. But you'd have to start with a shred of compassion instead of contempt and work up from there.
I hope you pay cash for any and all medical treatment. Accepting payments from a pooled contribution from insurance premiums of an entire group of insured, including in a private health insurance plan, is not rugged individualism. Murica.![]()

He'll tell you that's their fault due to being lazy and not pulling themselves up by bootstraps or something. They should have chosen to be rich, or cut out avocado toast and Netflix, and if they just didn't do that simple thing, they're stupid, lazy, and don't deserve to stay alive.Rate This wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 1:51 pmMirror…. I have to call foul on Mr. Shit and Run up there. Zenith is one of the most well thought out, best posters here.

So we have wildly inflated costs compared to everyone else and millions of people getting compromised healthcare... AND the costs are consistently going up. Proof positive that this entire system needs to be blown the fuck up.
But I guess if there's profits to be made and shareholders to make happy and the only thing that it takes is having the lobbyists available to line the pockets of politicians who will ignore things as long as the check clears, that's what matters.

Can't argue with that. The ACA put this whole messed up system on steroids.Motown322 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 8:08 pmSo we have wildly inflated costs compared to everyone else and millions of people getting compromised healthcare... Actually more people are insured now than were before. What is needed is an insurance program administered by the Feds. Notice I said insurance not doctors. You keep the private providers as is but the Feds do the insurance. Try taking away a seniors Medicare sometime if you doubt how well that can work. Let me know how many limbs you lose.km1125 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 11:35 pmCan't argue with that. The healthcare system was fucked well before the ACA came around... I don't place the blame there (though it's convenient to do). The ACA is a good thing IMO as it gets more people covered, but it doesn't fix the main issue and that's why the hell are the costs so inflated in the first place?
Healthcare is big business. Gotta increase those margins. Can't do that by giving people good value for their money.

Re: Schriver(R): "Make Gay Marriage illegal...it's not extreme."
Health insurance masks the cost so there is no incentive to keep costs affordable for fear of losing customers and doctors felt free to charge an arm and a leg basically. You couldn’t do that previously when many had to pay out of pocket because they lacked health insurance when it was a new thing. Insurance originated as a union demand sometime around WW2. So by the 70’s when costs started creeping upward people largely started having insurance en masse. This is my understanding of it anyways.Motown322 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 1:04 pm The healthcare system was fucked well before the ACA came around... Re: Schriver(R): "Make Gay Marriage illegal...it's not extreme."
Right... everything gets buried and people never see the ridiculous "$300 per bandage" charges. Everyone has their hand out 'cause there's money to be made at every level and the top-to-bottom mindset is like Kramer with the stereo receiver ("They just write it off!!!"). So you deny a claim here and raise a co-pay there and bump up a deductible over there and pretty soon those profit margins turn into a new vacation home for a bunch of people. This country just needs to stop fucking around and go single-payer like every other civilized country on the planet and get out of this "healthcare for profit" model.

In 2020, when I was in Florida, I cut my knee. It wasn't a deep cut. It didn't require stitches, but I couldn't stop the bleeding. It was ruining my clothes. After several hours, I called my insurance Co and they directed me as to which hospital to go to.
I got there and in no time at all they had given me a tetanus shot and bandaged my knee and sent me on my way. Several weeks later, when I arrivedback here at home there was a bill from the hospital waiting for me in the mail. They were supposed to have submitted it to my Insurance Co. The amount of the bill was $3600.
A week ago I was having a similar but more complex procedure performed by a Dr. here at home. I told the Dr. about the cost of the care I had received in FL. She asked me "What do you think we get paid for this?" I told her I had no idea. She told me to guess. So I guessed "Less than $1000.00?" She told me $300.00 is what they get paid for the procedure she was performing, and it involved stitches.

I need two hip replacements, they go for 100,00 thousand dollars each. I have to wait until I go on Medicare to get them and until then I use meds and PT to make it day to day. That and my handy dandy cane.

Moderna should be paying for it.
Oh and TT, that is highway robbery. All cost should be disclosed at time of service, posted somewhere.
You wouldn't go to Tim Hortons, eat your food, and get $3600 bill weeks later.

Nope, the government gave them total immunity from any side effect issues.

The bill was sent to me in error. It should have been sent to the insurance Co. I sent it to them and they took care of it.audiophile wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 7:45 am

The insurance Cos negotiate their own rates with the hospitals. Someoneone without insurance would have paid even more than $3600.
