With the Tigers signing of Alex Cobb, Ron missed his chance to repeatedly call our new pitcher "Ty" Cobb & regale us again & again with his ever-expanding timeframe for his circa 1960 on-the-street encounter with the Georgia Peach.

In the earliest years of my youth, before I became an obsessed Tigers fan just in time for their great '67 & '68 runs, it was the name of Rocky Colavito, not Al Kaline or anyone else, that permeated my young brain. And has there ever been a better name in the annals of baseball legends?! R.I.P.

Thanks all for the nice words.

I drove by Denny’s on Rawsonville Road yesterday and noticed no cars in the lot and no lights on inside. I didn’t go up and see if it was just a power outage or a permanent closure, but if it’s the latter I hope Al is OK.

This week I re-read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and watched the 1951 movie version of the story. There's one line in the story that always reminds me of Ron.

It's when the Ghost of Christmas Present says:
You have never seen the like of me before!
