The story, as I remember it, is that Bill and WZZM couldn't agree on a new contract, and since he didn't have a non-compete, he jumped ship to WOOD-TV. I'm thinking Bill had a long-term contract at WZZM that was signed before they even thought of including NCAs.MasterB wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 12:41 amI didn't know that Bill & Graig didn't like George or George didn't like them. Was George the reason Bill left WZZM for Wood TV in 2001 I was surprised that WZZM had a no compete in Bill's contract that he could just go on Wood TV the next week after leaving WZZM. Yeah, wasn't a fan of George either I didn't watch his forecast all that much.Localnewsisdead wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:55 amGeorge isn't well liked by many including Bill and Craig, so there was absolutely NO WAY they would appear at his retirement.Honolulublue4life wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 6:52 pm Not the sendoff Bill got. Mr. Lessons is known throughout the meteorological community as a "know it all" and tends to think his crap doesn't stink. This makes him very difficult to work with. I can almost guarantee he produced all his own puff pieces proclaiming his greatness.
I was actually surprised of the sendoff that Lessons got seeing that they did as little as possible when Lee retired.

Not the sendoff Bill got. I figured they would have brought back Craig and Bill for this.

My guess is he didn't want it. He never embraced the 'local celebrity' spotlight like Bill. More meteorologist than TV personality.

I thought George was a very good forecaster. He was one of the first locally to offer a fairly detailed 5-day forecast; that began some 35 years ago (or thereabouts).
I also remember hearing his forecasts on 101.3 WCUZ back in the day.
WZZM did a better job than WOOD-TV forecasting last week's lake effect snowstorm.

Trump is too stupid to know what "reciprocal" means.

I have one problem with this. You can’t accurately forecast lake-effect anything. It falls wherever it falls. So, WOOD, WWMT, WXMI and WZZM were all correct… but actual snow placement is like playing the lottery.MWmetalhead wrote:I thought George was a very good forecaster. Exactly. Although one can get fairly accurate if they know the geography of the area and the conditions all hold true in the forecast.format this wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:48 pm I have one problem with this. That's why areas like Cheboygan don't get a forecast for a foot of snow when the winds come out of the west - there is a big hill on I-75 where a lot of weather breaks up. But if the wind is out of the N/NE off Lake Huron, that "foot of snow" *could be* closer to two feet.
