Anyone having difficulty with log-in passwords?

Unread post by MWmetalhead »

PHP 7.2 had an update last night, and I know it caused me and at least one other regular poster major issues when attempting to log in this morning.

If you had the issue but were able to work around it via password reset, please let me know here. I am trying to determine how widespread the issue. Thanks.

I had this issue, but fortunately, the email feature for password reset is working!

I had the wrong password issue, but using password reset worked for me!

(This is MWmetalhead, but I'm logged in as Admin1 right now.)

I'm glad the reset function is working.

There is an add-on PHP module called sodium that my version of PHP lacks. When a minor PHP update occurs, the password recognition issue occurs due to the missing module. I was unaware of the relevance of that missing module until this morning. Was never an issue in the past.

I can revert to PHP 7.1, which does contain the sodium module, and which hopefully will prevent a relapse. I will ask my host to do so tonight or tomorrow.

The current version of PHP is 8.2. Many servers won't allow you to be much older than 7.0.

The current version of phpBB is optimized for 7.1 to 7.4.

I eventually managed to get in after the password reset link didn't want to send me a reset.

Reset apparently worked for me.

I was a little boggled, but at my age that's the norm now. I have established a new password for the Board.

Not related, but I’m having issues loading the board on Spectrum. Works fine on my phone (Verizon).
